How come skins with album cover-feature are so rare?

While browsing deviantart for new Winamp-skins I noticed it was virtually impossible for me to find a single skin that seemed able to display album art.

(Every skin that featured cover art was for some sort of extension program called CD Art-Display. I just found one (!) for regular winamp)

Thought I'd ask you skin-designers: Why is this?

It's possible to display album art in your skin, right? (since Big Bento does it, I figure it has to be..)
-So how come so fiew seem to be doing it?
Are skin-designers very anti cover art, or what's the deal?

LamaLamaDuck that's a good question. I am still looking for documentation on added cover art to my skin. I want to add this feature in ModernClassic as soon as I figure out how to code it.

Hi

It's very easy to add the cover art feature to old (mandatory modern) skins

1. First create a new file containing this :

<container id="winamp.albumart" name="Album Art" default_visible="0" nomenu="1" >

<groupdef id="albumart.content.group">

<AlbumArt fitparent="1" move="1" />

</groupdef>

<layout id="normal" minimum_w="60" minimum_h="60" h="164" w="164">
<Wasabi:Standardframe:NoStatus x="0" y="0" w="0" h="0" relatw="1" relath="1" content="albumart.content.group" />

</layout>

</container>

<script file="scripts/albumart.maki" />

2. Save it with the name albumart.xml in the xml dir of the skin

3. Copy albumart.maki to the script dir of the skin (this file can be found in any skin featuring the album art function. If you can't find it elsewhere, load one of my skins, like Tewnz or one of the NEO)

4. Edit skin.xml in the root dir of the skin and add this line after <include ...etc lines :
<include file="xml/albumart.xml"/>

5. Select the skin or refresh it with F5 if it's in use.

The cover window is now available by right clicking in the main window.

If it doesn't work, check the first lines of the skin.xml file. This should be :

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<WinampAbstractionLayer version="1.31">

or higher version

but cover art support has been around for a couple of years now hasn't it?
And I have yet to find more than three skins that use it(!!)
I think it's very wierd. Would think it should be standard for all new skins to use album art.

Tried it out. It works fine, however when the skin is loaded I get an error message saying:
"script failure. Press left mouse button to continue. Guru Meditation #001C. FFFF0184. 44 Null object called. scripts/albumart.maki"

I'm guessing there is a problem with my skin's version.
(It's my first skin ever, so I don't know much about these things)
I built it on an old skin, with <WinampAbstractionLayer version="0.8">.
When I change it to 1.3 I got this error message while loading the skin: [I]"the skin you are trying to load is using an old format. It might crash..." and surely enough, it did.

Hi

Maybe your basis is too old to accept the implementation of the cover feature.
Please post a screenshot and a link to load the file. I'll see how I can help you.

To get that guru meditation to go away I moved the <script file="scripts/albumart.maki" /> into the group def. It now looks like this:

PHP Code:
<container id="winamp.albumart" name="Album Art" default_visible="0" nomenu="1" >

<
groupdef id="albumart.content.group">

<
AlbumArt fitparent="1" move="1" />
<
script file="scripts/albumart.maki" />
</
groupdef>

<
layout id="normal" minimum_w="60" minimum_h="60" h="164" w="164">
<
Wasabi:Standardframe:NoStatus x="0" y="0" w="0" h="0" relatw="1" relath="1" content="albumart.content.group" />

</
layout>

</
container
The popup menu in the maki doesn't work either way though.
