add year to artwork sort, and multiple librarys

hi egg and all winamp designers!

two wishlist items to go with comp tag support:

1. please add the ability to sort by album artist, year, album

right now, year isn't included, and the albums go alphabetical. adding year would put them in the correct release date order. some other people might want a artist, year, album view as well.

including year is important to people who browse their albums as artwork, in [album] artist groupings.

2. a much bigger request...

please add the ability to have separate libraries.

for instance, i have have my folder structure such that all my personal rips are in one folder, while all my downloads are in another. they are both in a parent folder, and i set winamp to see the parent.

however, there are times i'd like to deal with them as separate libraries. so i can manipulate them independently of each other.

of course, i would also like the ability to view all "sub libraries" as one single library.

i would think it should be fairly easily possible via the tree on the left.

thanks! u guys rock!

2. There is a much simpler solution for this one.
Why not just create seperate smart views for each "library".

ie. add a new Smart View in the ML and have something like
filename BEGINGS "C:\personal rips"
...and so on for each "library"

If your files are already seperated by folders this is very easy. Then they are still part of one big library too like you wanted.

maybe i'm a big dummy... i didn't know you could do that. i will see if i can make it happen.

however, there are "other" ways you might want to create separate librarys other than folder location, but maybe your solution would work for that too. i'll have to try it out and see if it works for me. thx for the heads up!

that smartview thing is awesome, but i doubt i would have ever figured out how to use it as it wasn't intuitive to me to use "filename" "begins with" and then just the path / folder location.

but it works like a charm! its really great, thx for the tip! winamp is an amazingly powerful program.

just in case anyone missed it:

i still have a completely valid request in for #1.

it would be great to see it added to the official listing.

also, while #2 is mostly solved for me via smartviews, i think there could be instances where people would have separate physical locations of separate libraries and need something more than smartviews offers. the rub is the default audio view, that is seemingly tied to one location.

i decided it made sense to post a screenshot to show exactly what i mean.

notice the beatles albums. they are all in alphabetical order.

i want the option to simply rearrange them by year, instead of by alphabetical.

so everything else is the same in the screenshot, its just that year would take precedence over alphabetical. (if two albums were of the same year, then it should be alphabetical).

hey MrSinatra in that picture you've posted. Look at the column names in the right window pane. Can you see a small triangle/arrow near 'Artist'? That means its being sorted alphabetically by Artist. If you want to change it to sort by year just click 'Year' and an arrow will appear there and the albums will be sorted in ascending or descending order by year. click it again to change it from ascending to descending and vice versa. By the way you can sort it by any of the columns there. just click the column name.

i'll doublecheck, but i don't think thats true. i couldn't click on those columns (directly above the artwork) or customize them either.

first of all, the stuff is sorted via TPE2, aka "band" or "album artist."

secondly, you can't click on those links/columns. but even if you could, i don't want them arranged by year alone, i want them arranged by:

album artist -> year -> album (alphabetical)

as opposed to:

album artist -> album (alphabetical)

which is how the picture shows it.

ok, i just doublechecked...

i was wrong about not being able to click the columns... you can. (i could have sworn i couldn't just a few days ago when i tried) but i was right about the rest of everything i said there.

even if i click year and go back to artist, it doesn't help.
