Hi,
I wonder if anyone know the answer to this:
After removing a track from the media library, my place is lost as the library reverts back to the start, the top of the list. That's difficult to work with when trying to systematically sort through the ML removing unwanted tracks when it keeps losing my place.
Any thoughts on this please?

How about making a list of the tracks you want to remove and then removing them all at once?

I was hoping that I could work my way through the list one at a time because I'll be testing tracks as I go. Thank you anyway.

I think that making a list of the tracks you want to remove and then removing them all at once is the only way but there may still be another way. I would also need an answer to this

In fact, everything is solved quite simply and quickly. All we need is a plug-in Playlist File Remover

You can search it on the Internet.

Send track(s) to a Library playlist called "To be removed".
When all tracks have been sent, export the playlist to a M3U8 file.
Open the M3U8 file with Mp3tag, or any Tag editor that supports M3U8 files.
Tag all files distinctively, (eg. "garbage" in the Comment field)
Rescan the Library
Create a Smartview to filter for "garbage" in the Comment field
Select all --> Remove from library
Remove "garbage" from tag, if desired.
