how about paying for the service you need?

ok now with this whole licence issue and everyone getting all worked up because they don't want to buy a pro licence for things they won't use.

and other people wanting to donate to winamp but not buy the licence because the money is actually going to the MP3 and ripping software compnay.

well what about this idea.

you have a donate button (100% goes to nullsoft)

you have a PRO button
(full featured pro winamp)

and then the most important new buton of all would be a "custom" button)

this would be so that, say i want MP3 ripping, i might not want burning. so i pay perhaps $10 (coz nullsoft will take a small cut) then the software is affordable.

and if in the future Winamp gets Dolby 5.1 decoding (which is a licence required thing) i would buy that for playing DVD's.

In my country winamp costs $30 due to excange rates, if they add on a few more licence required features like Dolby decoding etc... then the price quickly goes up to $100 (in my money)

and for $100 i can buy a DVD player with dolby.

so if it potentially had a "customise your own pro version" then i would be 100x more likely to buy it as i can then get the features i want

good idea, or just added hassle??

Probably not legal but i bet you could just send some money to someone that has bought winamp5 and ask them to use their cdkey. Or place an order for you. Then tell you the Key.

:S umm that wasn't really the point, the point was sugesting that nullsoft sell the addons seperatly so i don't pay extra for thins i don't need or want.

they would get more sales this way IMO.

just like the installer you can choose what you want, and i pull out a whole pile of things from it such as most video and all ripping/burnign suport.

I don't understand the exchange rate argument. Yes it costs you $30 in YOUR CURRENCY. That doesn't mean you are paying any more than anyone else. You are still paying US$15, just with a crappy exchange. It's your country's fault for having a crap currency

While in the UK it only costs me about £11 rock on

Sorry...forgive me.

LOL for the same work (in time for the same job)

in the USD
$15 = 1.5 hours (for example)

yet in NZD
$15 = 1.5 hours

so
$30 NZD = 3 hour

so i am paying 3 hours and the US people are paying 1.5 hours.

does that make sense therefore i am paying 2x more in time.

Sounds like a good idea. I think that other apps, like Photoshop should do something like that. Elements is too limited, but the full version has too much. I would love to be able to buy it legally and have just the features I need.
