Actually, next time I'll wear headgear so when I get kneed in the head, this won't happen. Luckily I caught it early and the location is such that it should go down on its own, and I won't have to have the blood drained.

Other second rate doctors would like to write it off as a simple cauliflower ear when it's actually an allergic reaction to Nickel. That or Lupus...

Drilling the chicken wing. Here is the move being done in a match. You get your opponent's arm behind him, then step around the head. My partner didn't step so much around my head though, but into it, kinda like the fellow below.

One ear though, right? A guy at work has it on both, also from wrestling. Incidentally, how long have you had it? My coworker has had it for ages, and it never seemed like a topic to broach.

I just never understood, how does a cauliflower ear look like a cauliflower? I've never really seen the resemblance, it looks more like your ear is imploding on it self in a knot of flesh. Hold on, I think I have to puke.

I just got mine on Monday. It has various levels. Sometimes you can drain the blood quickly and you can never tell you had it, other times it permanently deforms your ear. Mine is a light case that should leave little to no damage.

Yes, a bump I know. Regardless, since you are not prone to post pictures of yourself anymore, (it's been 10 years since I've post pictures of myself on the internet and good luck in finding them) I was just wondering if all went well with your ear. Looking back at this thread, it's obvious the guy I was talking about had permanent damage to his ears.

Also, I forgot your age, but I was just wondering what the circumstances were that you were wrestling to begin with. Was this just rough-housing with some buddies or academic related?

(Also in the interest of quid pro quo, I'm slightly older than Scor.)

I'm 23 years old, I've been wrestling since I was 8 years old. I took a few (3) years off after high school and then last year some friends of mine and I started a wrestling club at my school because the school had no official team*. Despite my years of wrestling, I'd never had cauliflower ear before, due to diligent use of headgear. I wasn't as diligent at the club because I was not that serious of a wrestler anymore. I wasn't very competitive, but I do know my stuff. The club was entirely student run, from practices, to competing in tournaments, to actually hosting our own tournament in April of last year (which, by the way, made us the second most profitable club on campus, second only to the Gamma Phi circus, which I also used to be a part of) which I took 3rd place in.

I was one of the oldest members of the club, and also one of the most experienced, so I took on more of a management role. The club was open to anyone who wanted to try, so I coached the lesser experienced kids. I've always been a skinny kid, so my wrestling style was one that was extremely technical and clean. I used this knowledge to help new kids learn moves, and help those with some experience polish theirs. I didn't go live (go 100%) much so I stopped brining my equipment on a regular basis.

One day I was helping a kid learn a chicken wing, which is described above, and he did it wrong, and kneed me in the head.

I knew the next day I had cauliflower ear, so i went to the doctor. The injury was less than 24 hours old when I saw the doctor, and she told me that due to it's location, the back of my ear, halfway between the top of the ear and the earlobe, on the crease when the ear meets the skull, it should drain on its own. 48 hours later, it was still there, like I suspected it would be, but hey, she has a Ph.D., I have a High School diploma. She sends me to a Ear, Nose, and Throat doctor.

He, in so many words, calls her a dumbass and says it should have been drained immediately, which i agreed with. He attempts to drain the hematoma, and, to his and my surprise, was able to drain a full cc of blood, but the rest had pretty much solidified. As such, to this day I have a lump about the size of half a grape on on the crease of my ear and skull.

Lucky for me, and lucky for the first doctor (if I was disfigured I would have sued), it is pretty much impossible to notice unless you know to look for it.

*ISU is one of the top teaching schools in the nation. One in 8 teachers in Illinois is an ISU graduate.1 Our elementary education program is second to none. As such, we have a nearly 2 to 1 ratio of females to males.

Title 9 is a law that with good intentions that doesn't work in real life, kind of like No child left behind. Basically it says that there has to be an equal number of male and female athletes, or scholarships. Something similar to that. In 1995 ISU was audited for having a disproportionate amount of male and female athletes when compared to the numbers of each in the undergraduate population. Easy to achieve when the school has a football team.

Instead of adding female sports to make the numbers equal (the spirit of the law), it simply cut men's wrestling and soccer, and added women's club soccer.

Long post, but that's the story

off topic, kind of related though :
yay for going camping at the river and tumbling 10-15 feet down a 45 degree incline and fucking up my ankle 3 hours after getting there, it's a bad sprain, but not broken.

Lesson learned. Next time I have a follow up question to an old thread, I'll just PM the person I have the question for instead of bumping.

In any event dlinkwit27, I'm glad the damage wound up being minimal.
