Can't sync iPod
After successfully putting my music library onto my new computer, I tried to sync my iPod. Things appeared to be working well, but after it finished syncing the last song, Winamp crashed and no changes were made to my iPod. I tried again with the same result. I then reformatted the iPod (using Windows; I don't see a way to do this in Winamp) to wipe it and try again. Now, Winamp recognizes the device only as a generic USB device and not as an iPod. When I try to sync, Winamp hangs. I tried dragging just a few songs onto the device, and they appeared to sync, but when I ejected the iPod, it appeared to reset again; no songs were on the iPod.
I'm using the latest Winamp with Windows 7. My iPod is a 160GB Classic with software version 2.0.4. This is incredibly frustrating; any pointers would be most welcome. Thanks. |

if you just recently formatted the ipod you will need to unplug the player and let it reboot. after is reboots plug the unit back in (if itunes is installed let it do the things it needs to do before continuing on the winamp this includes firmware) before closing itunes check the box on the unit that you want to manually manage music (if you dont do this the player will disconnect when you shut down itunes) you may need to click the X on syncing music in the song title bar
once you open winamp again it should recognize the player as a ipod if it doesnt i will have to recommend using mlipod.sourceforge.net (please note this plugin does not work with generations made within the last year) thanks rob (c)rob 2013 (picture & SN) (please note) As users we can't give others help unless we get full details of the problem that you are having |

Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, the iPod seems to be stuck in a resetting loop. It appears I synced some songs successfully, but after properly ejecting the iPod and unplugging it, it reset and returned to its factory state. No idea how to break out of this.

Yup, I've done what you said; no luck. Things appear to sync fine in Winamp, but when I eject it (properly), it just resets again.
Thanks again for your help. |

how old is the unit
if it is still in warranty range you may need to have it exchanged since to me it sounds like there is a major problem within the unit itself it may also be that the battery is dieing without looking at the unit itself i can tell you what is wrong thanks rob (c)rob 2013 (picture & SN) (please note) As users we can't give others help unless we get full details of the problem that you are having |

Thanks. I might take it to a Genius Bar, then, though I suspect that they'll just tell me to use iTunes, which I absolutely refuse to do after all the problems it gave me on my last computer.

Success! I reset the iPod with iTunes on a friend's computer, so my Winamp recognized it as an iPod again. Then, all I had to do was sync in chunks. Not sure why, but I guess 10,000+ tracks is too much to do at once.
