Writing ratings to file causes tracks to be re-added to Library if folder scanned

Hi,

I've just ripped a pile of new CDs and so scanned my Music folder to import them all into the Winamp library. I was hoping to use my different "Recently Added" smart views to keep track of them.
Unfortunately a huge number of other (older) files are showing as having been newly added from my re-scan of the Music folder making the recently added views useless.

On closer inspection, it appears that all the older files re-added are all tracks that have had ratings applied to them over the past few months. Therefore, since I have Winamp set to write the ratings to file, my best guess is that Winamp is detecting them as different/changed files and re-importing them again even though they are already in my library.

Can anyone else confirm if this is the case?

Thanks,

TW

Winamp will only re-import them if their locations have changed. Those in the same locations will just have their library records updated. They will show up in the recently added view because their modification dates were changed when the ratings were added (at least those whose new modification dates fall within the recently added view's range of dates for listing files).

This method of processing is the intended behavior, so it is not a bug.

Smart Views allow filtering by "Date Added" and by "Last Updated". These are not the same.
As Aminifu has explained, a files modification date changes when a rating is written. This will change the "Last Updated" value.

But the "Date Added" value does not change when a rating is written to file, even after re-scanning.

Are you filtering by "Date Added" or "Last Updated"?

I think the default filter for the "Recently Added" smart view is "File Time", but changing it to "Date Added" would solve the OP's problem.

The default "Recently Added" smart view is "Date Added After 3 days ago".
Maybe the OP will return and tell us what filters he used.

Ok, thank you for that correction. I remember changing the time to after 30 days ago, awhile back. I must have changed the filter variable too. I've been updating the resolution of my album art and I wanted the files with embedded artwork changes listed along with the new files added over that time period.

The cool thing is that all the default smart views can be edited (and new views added) to fit a person's needs.
