File Sharing Programs (P2P)

[Edit --> DJ Egg]

Be very wary of the ones which install spyware, ie. do not install them!
See thread for full details.

I noticed LimeWire isn't on either list. Should I uninstall it?

[Edit --> DJ Egg] Yes! Seeing it is now known to install spyware [/Edit]

I went through the same as you. After they shut down Napster, I wasn't sure where to download MP3s.

A friend recommended Audiogalaxy, LimeWire, and Morpheus. I've used all three, and the work well.

However...
Audiogalaxy looks shut down.
Limewire cancels downloads in the middle.
Morpheus isn't as reliable as it used to be.

So, just as you, I'm also searching for sites to download NEW MP3s. So, if anyone has any suggestions, please post 'em.

The new morpheus is crap. For most of my mp3's I use WinMX.

any AG clones?

i have tried so many morpheus type programs and because the person you're getting it off can cancel the download, anything half underground is impossible to download completely. if anyone finds a audiogalaxy clone please tell me, ill seriously think of sending you hash cookies - fresh ones too.

Some people don't want to have to wait in a queue.
Some people like to be able to download at full speed.
Some people want all their files to be correctly named and tagged.
Some people want to download top quality encoded files.
Some people actually don't mind paying for such a service...
especially ones which ensure the artists also receive their rightful royalties.

You could have posted mp3 sites only and have left the porn links out...

Related to but not 100% on topic, but... Spybot S & D has issues with Norton Antivirus; it would NOT let NAV update the virus definitions; wound up uninstalling it in order to keep NAV updated. Use PC Tools' Spyware Doctor instead (not free, but inexpensive, especially if you've already paid good money for NAV. And Lime Wire IS listed, btw.

downloads

While Limewire does include malware; it's fairly simple to remove it without corrupting the basic limewire program... which I've done - be sure to run Norton's WinDoc or similar to get rid of the un-needed registry entries _before_ you next start Limewire, though - otherwise, it'll re-install everything you thought you got rid of...

I Found a hack to download files from rhapsody. It requires Firefox, Firebug, and NoScript. PM me to know how (I know how, but won't put it up here since I would be banned). The rhapsody player just cues up mp3s, so it is easy to do.

I would never use a p2p software it is way too dangerous. You should grab your music from YouTube. Just search for the music you like and download a audio version of the video by using youtube to mp3.

In 2001 such music-platforms like SoundCloud didn't exist yet. I have many MP3s and their album art from SoundCloud, mostly the beautiful SoundCloud-Podcasts, everything as free downloads.

In the Internet Archive there is also many good music as free downloads, and on Bandcamp they have music as free downloads and music, which cost a little bit money.

Also I get music from my artist-colleagues very often.

Well-known music from the "Top Ten" can be bought on other websites, for example from Amazon.

You can also try to download music from Youtube, but the problem comes when you have to convert it to mp3 and for that I use https://ytmp3.com/ a great youtube to mp3 converter and the great thing about it is that you have no limit at conversion.

Adding to the list. This one is my favourite if you need to download longer videos. No cap and it converts on the fly, so no conversion time.
