Embedded Players for Shoutcast

Hello, friends,

Some people (not very smart people) are having problems to access my station.I already made my best in order to turn things easier for them.

They complain about many things:

01 - When they click on the PLAY link, another software like PowerDVD try to open the link...they often don't know what to do...

02 - some of them don't know how to choose appropriate link for their internet speed.

03 - And even some "girls" find difficult to install Winamp for instance... They feel like fix a car problem...

04 - Many of them, would prefer to use their own Windows Media player... they say... why install anything ??Aghhhh!!! (indeed, many people can access with WMP, but some don't... I always reccomend installing Winamp...

05 - We are talking about Shoutcast, if the matter were Icecast of peercast, these people would find so difficult as learn japanese in Braille...

So, I try to do my best in order to avoid these stupid things.

I would like to embed kind of a FLASH Stream Shoutcast and OGG player inside my Website in order to easy things.

Could you tell me a list of links where I could try and test some of them with my pages?

Thanks in advance,

Dihelson

Interesting solution. Never even occured to me. Now that im thinking about it... when i use Yahoo's LaunchCast, it just "does it" no neeed for me to configure a damn thing.

Be nice if we had an equivelant for SC.

Yes, Yahoo Launchcast is FOOL PROOF. even the dummiest person can use it. But if we had kind of a Flash Shoutcast player, we could make it as easy as Launchcast for common people.

People doesn't like to download this or that in order to listen. With hundreds of stations on Launchcast, who cares?
So, we shoutcast users need to simplify this process...

All you need to do is setup your SC server link in an ASX file, put the embedded player on your website and have it connect to the asx file.

Quick and easy and don't need to install a thing.

Hello, MegaRock...
Thanks for finding a solution, but I'm a newbie, I didn't understand what you said. Could you explain how to do this step by step?

For example, when you talk about setup SC server link in ASX file, what do you mean? how to do this?

And when you talk about the embedded player, what player?
I'm trying to find an embedded player!!
Do you know some? where to find?

Thanks in advance!

Thank you very much Spaceplay!
It's just running on my website: www.radiopiano.com
But I couldn't make it show the song titles...Why?

I have some Icecast links also, which as we know broadcast in OGG format. Have you any idea on how this embedded player could play OGG? WMP-9 doesn't play them...

Thanks for bringing this nice pleace of software!

Thank you Spaceplay,
If you find something, bring it to here also, please!
As you know, ogg files has a lot o quality if compared to mp3 at the same bitrate. That's why I'm searching for an embedded ogg player also. Indeed I found one embedded winamp, but it needs a Java certificate (around 400 u$ for 2 years!). You can make a good comparison of these formats on my website, where I put two buttoms, the same stream, if you click on the first, you'll hear Mp3-PRo at 24k, on the second one, ogg at 32k. the difference is astronomic. I tried to put even an 32k mp3-pro in order to compare the two ones, and the result was not different. unfortunatelly Windows Media Player , even at version 10, cannot play ogg files. I think they fear the competition...
If you want to test what I said, go to www.portaldojazz.com .I made myself some comparisons,and would like to hear your comments also.

I understand the concept of an embedded player, but im confused as to how this is any better than just having an .asx link or a .pls link.

If you have to have an "embedded player" for each type of file/player that defeats the whole idea in my mind.

Why bother with this , if you have to have different ones for different types of players? Screw it just put a link right? Whats the point if it doesnt automaticly play the file regardless of what type of player they have.

The Advantage of an Embedded player was just what I said on the beginning of the topic.
When broadcasting in MP3, many times people get confused because they don't have Winamp!!!

=> And normally, WMP doesn't open .PLS files

And common people don't like to download things in order to listen to a webradio.

So, I installed an embedded player on my site, and now common people can listen to my station by simply click on PLAY, since it's not more necessary having WINAMP on their computers.

But I really appreciate, if you could explain us how can I broadcast using Shoutcast and ASX/ASF files. It would be of great help if we could hear details about HOW we can do it. A colleague on the top of this topic talked about that but didn't say details.
Information without details...

Thanks in advance,

Check this out: http:Radio Flash On the pop-up choose one of the qualities.

In fact there's a detector installed that analyze if wmp 9 is available. If it founds yes, then it redirects to the embeded-style page, otherwise to the winamp-style page.

It's a more or less usable way of stream compability.

SPACEPLAY,

I have to say your script Rocks!!!
It's very nice. Now , people can listen to my station, even if they haven't Winamp installed.

I would like to ask to ALL, something easy to do, but which is becomming stressing to find:

I would like to put this Virtual player on a Pop-up window, in such a way, that when people click on a PLAY buttom located on a website, the a pop-up window would bring the player on a non resizeable window. This floating window would be very interesting, because people would not need to stay on my site with the "embedded' player working there. They could visit another websits while a floating pop-up windows with the WMP would allow them to continue listening...
I know this can be done with javascript, but haven't find the exact codes to do it, opening this page with the player inside...

Thanks,
Dihelson

Put this code on the header section of your html:
code:
<script language=javascript type=text/javascript>
<!--
function openPopWin(url, name, settings){
var popwin = window.open(url, name, settings);
popwin.focus();
return false;
}
-->
</script>

And call the function from an anchor tag like this:
code:
<a href="" onclick="return openPopWin('wmp.htm','','resizable=no,width=xxx, height=xxx');">Tune in...</a>

Change the url parameter ['wmp.htm' = document where you have the embedded WMP code] and set the width & height of course.

Think of this as a "requested pop-up", it's a different thing and it works, believe me.

It works!
LAUNCHCAST Radios from Yahoo have Pop up also and everybody listens to it...What's the problem!

Mine is already working on my website. See how it fits well: www.portaldojazz.com

The only thing I couldn't avoid (YET) was that terrible Geocities Add-On Banner, and when we close the banner, we have to click on play again. But I'll find a way to block this banner, I once got it...
Now, everybody can listen to my radio like Launchcast radios, the listeners don't need to worry about what kind of player he/she needs, it's just click on the buttom and begin listening, like the good webradios do. Who needs
Windows Media anymore ??

Shoutcast do the job fine!

hello, Friends,

OK, common streams now are working BUT...

If I wanted to stream some On Demand files using the embedded WMP plugin what's the syntax?

Suppose we follow the tutorial located at:

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?threadid=75736

There shows that On Demand using shoutcast server is linked on the website by creating a Href line using extension .pls on the final, or if for use exclusively by winamp, we could use extension .MP3 directly.

On the plugin, we saw that we only need to put as Href, something like:

http://IP:PORT

WMP plugin will make all the rest.

So, I would like to Broadcast On Demand files using WMP plugin also and Shoutcast.

How to do it ???

Thanks,
Dihelson

Hello, 101,

Could you tell me, if the On Demand files would be broadcast on the same own file bitrate, or will be on the server's bitrate?

For example, if my OnDemand files are MP3 at 320k, a listener would have to have a good connection to internet in order to listen to it, or it would follow , say a 24k setted on the DNAS encoder section ?

May be I should convert all my files to a lower bitrate before trying to make On Demand services...

Thanks,

okay, front page 2000 took the first code about windows media player but was loaded only through the advanced to html box by copy and paste, it seems to work in preview browser (prior to upload)

the graphics load fine, the play option does not signal any kind of performance.

fp2k does not support the kind of pages the immediate above source code implies yet, oughta work in the advance to html copy and paste function.

fp2k does have pay for plugins i'm sure...

just a question , did you replace the part where it says "place your ip + port here" ?

if you don't replace that part with your ip number and port it will not ever play your stream because it doesn't know where to connect to!

when i did,

the top "insert here" had the "" at the end of each word.

however the bottom one had a space at the end of your code

"insert here "

dunno if that is to be that way, closed the gap and again, it is only in preview mode, not online as of yet.

It's funny,

I work with FP2000 also, and had no problems!
My station is working fine with the scripts.

What I do want to know is if there's any way to put On Demand files to play with WMP also, but broadcasting through Shoutcast.

I'm trying to solve the ASX file enygma...

Hello! Maybe somebody can help me with this? I embeded a WMP as a test in my site using the script that someone gave here before (I apologize; at the moment of writing this I can't see who was the one). Then I substituted the lines where indicated and added my IP + the port 8000. I saved the file. When I open my test site (www.kanamasterconnection.3h.com) the players appears there, but doesn't work. Right clicking on the "play" button, and going to its properties to see where it redirects, I see that it doesn't point to my IP, but first to the page itself and then to the IP. (That is: http://www.kanamasterconnection.3h.c...ndns.org:8000.
But I repeat, in the HTML file, I don't write it so. If needed for helping me, I can send a TXT that I made with all the information appearing in the "index.htm" document.
In advance, thanks a lot for any help.
Regards.

Hey kanamaster,

Got your station uisng the LISTEN TO K etc link above. Came up great.

I also saw your admin page in my Winamp aera and not sure whether you wanted that to happen or not.

I'm trying to set my On Demand up and I've got some q's if you don't mind.

Are you running from a box at home or on a hosted server?

Are you running On Deman or are you streaming all the time on a loop?

If you are On Demand I'd appreciate how you did this..

Thjen again are you using the embed? Then again if you were would I get Winamp installing to hear it?

Appreciate the help if you can

Hello, Kanamaster,

I tried all your links and doesn't work.
Even opening URL on Winamp and putting:

http://kanamasterconnection.3h.com/k...yndns.org:8000

And I saw the code of your embedded player, I noticed something strange, there's an aditional space __ before the last " on your 8000" link.
It's like 8000 " <- I don't know if this affects anything, but...

That little space before the final " should not affect. The problem (and doubt) for me is: Why is the "play" button pointing first to the same page where the player is located, and then after the "/" shows the corect direction and port that I write on the index.htm file?

And you say that none of my links work!
Well, at least the link I have here in my signature should work. This is what another member told me just minutes ago, as you can read above.
Regards.
