Streamripping

Why do AOL and Nullsoft prohibit the discussion of streamrippers in this forum? Winamp itself can be used as a stream ripper. Winamp is an AOL/Nullsoft product. Therefore why are they so strict about stream ripping?

streamripping = copyright breach/theft.

Same reasons why gnutella, WASTE, napAMP and so on got wacked, when you are part of a massive multimedia corp like AOL/Time Warner, the last thing you wanna be doing is helping people rip off your own products.

Well then why include the feature along with Winamp? You'd think that they'd remove the feature if it was such a liability.

Streamripping isn't included with winamp, well not technically anyhow.

The ability to listen to streams is, however SHOUTcast as a product has built in safeguards to prevent you from saving the streams, that's where streamripping plugins come in and get around them.

You won't find any stream ripping components bundled with winamp, or prompted on winamp.com, least not since the legal people clamped down on us

Ok then what exactly does this option do: Have Winamp opened and press [Ctrl + P] -> [Input] -> [Nullsoft MPEG Audio Decoder] -> [Configure] -> [Streaming] tab -> Check 'Save files to:' and select destination directory.

If that isn't a stream ripper, I don't know what is.

It only works for individually streamed mp3's (non-copyright protected)
It doesn't work for Shoutcast Streams. Try it

All of that is fine... and I find the legality of it amusing... but what of those of us that have hardware capable of doing the exact same thing? Such as, anyone who owns a Creative SoundBlaster Live! or Audigy (1 or 2)? Nice little option in Creative Recorder called 'What U Hear'... of course, I should probably just shut my mouth, if I'd like that to stay there...

The CD ripper is meant for your personal purposes, ie. keep the music onto your computer, don't share it, don't spread it. Of course .

Of course you can find software for any purpose, generally. Total Recorder, for an example, does the same thing. But all that matters is that Nullsoft can't bundle Winamp with software like that, that'd just be hypocritical . If you really want to rip a copyright-protected SHOUTcast stream, there are ways to do so. But you won't find information how to at Winamp.com, nor in Winamp's manuals.

Copyright reasons all the way here.

Those who know how, know . . . those who don't, don't.
And it's up to them to find out how, without any help in public from anyone here.
The crux of the issue is . . . we aren't supposed to discuss it here.
Not even hints.
The forum rules are pretty strict regarding this issue.
Besides, what more of a hint do people want?
Streamripper being the keyword . . . if people don't know how to use a search engine, then that's their problem, not ours.

Agreed, same with any other "how-do-I-rip-stuff-off-copyprotected-media" - related questions, use searchengines, help yourself .

You can't save SHOUTcast streams in WMP either.
