Company X gains Patent Y, sues Company Z

Company X, an IP holding company, in a none-astounding turn of events, sued Company Z today. While many people have been outspoken about Patent Y and how obsurd it is, the USPTO stands its ground.

The case will be decided in court, lawyers rejoice, the world suffers.

He's just quoted every patent story from the last year, several hundred of them in fact.

The patent office doesn't have to "hold" anything. It isn't their job to determine the validity of patents except in a very broad sense.

The courts deciding this isn't a problem. The problem is that usually this gets decided by who has the money for overpriced lawyers.

Mostly if you or I were to try to protect an idea we had patented, our pockets wouldn't afford a desist letter, much less a lawsuit.

So whoever has a bunch of money can steal your ideas with impunity. The reverse is not true.

Gotta love a pro-corporate environment. Someone needs to dispute the validity of the Patent Office itself since it's solely up to them to decide if a patent is legit or not and considering some of the bizarre crap they have allowed to be patented it's up to the people to abolish them otherwise we will be paying royalties on farting soon.
