Man, I keep coming back to this place. I joined here when I was 14 years old. I'm now 31. Time literally flies. I remember my first attempt at running my own Shoutcast online station for my friends and I. It was awesome when we peaked out to 10 at the same time!!

I'm dropping by to let everyone know that I'm still alive...for now. I got it. I got cancer. They did some genetic testing and found it's not genetic at all, I must have picked it up somehow in the environment. They caught it too late. I have Stage 4 colon cancer that spread into my abdominal wall. I've had surgery to put in temporary colostomy bags into place since the tumor was so large and am doing chemo every other week. I have 2 - 5 years to live, with chemo. I know the outcome can change with new treatment, blah blah blah. I'm not looking for sympathy. I can't change it.

If I ever drop off the face of the forums, y'all will know why. Otherwise, I expect to be here again in another year or so....when I remember all about this place again.

Sorry to hear about your illness, i certainly hope you can still enjoy life and still have some quality of life.

I also have the same illness , Non Hodgkin and get immuno therapie which is working for me.
Like you it is uncertain how long i still have.
Could be years, could be the show is all over by next year.

And much like you i can't change it.

I'm sorry to learn this news. Cancer is seemingly a non-discriminating motherfucker. Tucker, best of luck to you. Nick, keep doing what you're doing. You don't need me to tell you but I will anyway: do exactly what you want to do. Whether you have cancer or not, you never know when your time is up.

My best friend passed away from colon cancer a few years ago. He fought it for about a year before it took him.

I'm sorry you two have to go through it as well. It sucks.

That wouldn't make you an asshole at all if you ask me. Giving someone a good laugh during a difficult time is very much possible and quite a relieving distraction from it all if played well. We all saw the 007 days and we all agree that especially that one thread was hilarious, at least at the time, and I wouldn't say the laugh was ever at Tuckerm's expense. So yeah, still a good memory.


Tuckerm,I still remember putting together some background music for that Shoutcast channel of yours. I think it was done on Sony AcidPro lol. Some kind of basic hip-hop/techno beat. I was never real good at that stuff, but hopefully it at least served the purpose.


At the speed things are going with therapy advancements, there's a chance that you can beat the shit out of this thing, and Winamp Forum members will support you through it. The longer you fight it, the more time you buy for oncologists to find ways to improve both the quantity and quality of your days. Go out and have some fun, and if you can't, come back here and vent. We'll listen.

Hey buddy, look into cancer immunotherapy... The reason cancer can stick around and hide from the immune system is because it fakes the immune system into ignoring it, but by doing that it also becomes less able to adapt to rapid environmental changes and that fact can be taken advantage of. There are novel treatments like inducing an artificial fever that releases heat shock proteins which when combined with immune checkpoint inhibitors can temporarily make cancer more visible to the immune system allowing your body to fight it. This can allow your body to make real progress against cancer.

Single-pronged treatments like chemo work, but think of them as a brute force method like how hand sanitizer that kills 99.9% of germs. The ones that survive can come back, and new forms of immunotherapy may be able to help your body to get that last 0.1%

Talk to your oncologist about it, it's not like you have anything to lose. I think the latest advancements in cancer immunotherapy are getting us really close to having viable long term treatments against many forms of cancer.

i only wish it was, Immunotherapy can only last a few times.
There is a limit on how much you can have depending on the form of cancer you have.
In my case only 16 times and i have already had 6 of them every 3 weeks.

The therapy can also stop working in your body out of the blue when your body decides that it will no longer work with the therapy.
so , yes they make progress as we read this , but no, they still can't cure it all.

Massive progress has been made in cancer immunotherapy just in the last few years with relatively tiny amounts of money being spent on it... Those new advances are giving people more years, while research in immunotherapy continues to accelerate with more funding every year. You never know what might be around the corner, so we gotta fight while we can.

I wonder how much it costs to keep the forums operational. Eventually, the site is going to go down. In the last two decades, I've done ok for myself financially and would be willing to foot a certain amount of money to keep these around. I just wouldn't have the first idea of how to go about doing that.
