any way to save id3 data independently of files and then reassociate after reformat?

hi

i reformat periodically and don't want to have to back up my mp3's again every time i decide to change the tag info (for example, if i decide that sum 41 should be filed under "pop punk" instead of "punk" or vice versa, and change the genre field accordingly). is there some way to export my id3 tag data to a database of some sort, save that, and then re-associate it with the original file based on the filename (or some other parameter), which i wouldn't change (at least not between export and reassociation)?

it doesn't have to be via winamp. i would be fine with using a third party application to do this.

thanks.
