World's biggest truck...

...isn't the Caterpillar 797 any more. I didn't feel like this was Breaking News material, so I stuck it here instead. The Liebherr T 282 B has surpassed the Cat 797B as the world's largest off-highway truck by about twenty tons. How much bigger will they get?

You know your truck's big when you have to walk a flight of stairs to get to the driver's seat...

Largest we have at one of the mines I work at is a Cat 797 (or 787.. dont remember), along with 777's, and some 992 loaders.

Will take some pics tonight (assuming my vehicle can traverse the slick-ass mud roads (due to rain/sleet)) for the hell of it.

That truck's about three stories tall, so that stairway goes up two stories or so.

Anyway... I want one!

Think of how easy it'd be to park. There aren't too many other vehicles it couldn't park on top of.

3600+ horsepower makes sure that there isn't anything you can't MOVE if it's too big to park ON.

except maybe one of those huge dodge rams (haha. sorry, i'm tired) I really want one of those massive rams though.

You might feel a slight bump if you ran over a huge Dodge Ram in that dump truck.

Not quite as big as the Caterpillar 797B or the Liebherr T 282 B, but yea, you'd feel a bit of a bump...

Would've gotten pics of bigger ones this weekend, but it was too muddy and slick to bother. Perhaps this coming weekend.

If that one rock is too big for that truck to carry, what the fuck put it IN there... Something tells me that truck went to the wrong loader...

And there's no highwall there, so I doubt that rock fell...

Some people aren't that bright. :P

And if he's not that bright, he probably shouldn't be operating a piece of equipment that can lift rocks that weigh hundreds of tons.

I'll bet they loaded the rock into the truck in such a way that the truck was level (and safe), but then maybe the rock shifted during a turn...even a slight turn can cause big inertia in an object with a lot of mass.

I could be wrong, but that's just my guess.

(It'll still be human error, though, if the load wasn't secure enough to prevent it from tipping like that.)

Pretty sure they overloaded it on purpose to attempt to get more work done. Coal truck drivers often do this to haul more coal. It usually backfires in the form of not being able to stop in time to avoid a head-on collision with a small car. I think the max weight for a coal truck around my area is 416800 lbs (fully loaded). I’ve seen them weighed more than 500000 lbs.

SSJ4... think you could get any pictures of the loaders and excavators in your mine by any chance? That'd be cool to see, too. I liked the picture you took with your Tracker in front of the dump truck.

Sure, no problem. Can't get any tonight, cause tonight I'm at a guard shack. Though if the weather is good Sat/Sun I can get some loaders, rock trucks, a drill or two, and a explosives silo thing.

Most of them are fuggin huge, so I'll probably have my tracker next to them for size compairison.

Here's the biggest loader they have there, the 992G:

I think the rock truck in the center is a 777, and the other two are 787s. Not quite sure, but it is probably so.

But yes, I shall get more images of the equiptment they have there.

Took these two the other night. Sorry for shitty quality, but it's dark by the time I get to work (though slowly, the sun is higher and higher each week, so sooner or later, it'll be daylight and I'll get much better shots).

I'll have to talk to one of the bosses there one of these days, and try to get some shots of them in action, and perhaps a blast or two.

I just brought this back up to let some of you truck and machine enthusiasts know that the History channel is doing a show tonight about the world's biggest machines.
Quote:
Join us for a look at the biggest, heaviest, tallest, longest, meanest machines on the planet! We'll see what these monsters do and how they operate, and how they're designed and assembled. Machines investigated include the largest draglines, excavators used in mining; the biggest dump truck; a front-end loader with an 80-ton bucket and the largest tires of any vehicle; the cruise ship, the Voyager of the Seas; a 240-foot tall wind generator; and a fusion reaction machine the size of a football field.
This will be on in just a half hour.

Spiral out, my friend. You will find your way back to yourself, we all will.
I'll be waiting, and shall see you on the other side...

$3.5 million for the Liebherr T282! A set of tires alone is $180,000, and need to be replaced every six months. "We're the envy of every kid who's ever played in a sandbox."

Sarge, just pray for reruns. This show rocks!

I love the History channel, I love history in general. When our old cable network was bought by Comcast, this became my new obsession. While Modern Marvels, and a few other shows, aren't really history, they always provide very interesting and intelligent programming.

MASH and the History channel are all I need for TV. BTW, don't let Tucker see this confession.

I think that's just because the metric system is the standard measurement system in the rest of the world (the truck's largest market, I believe).

I was checking out this thread and my younger brother saw it and he caled my mom and start screaming that he want's that truck.

Then my mom asked me where can you buy that and I told her to take a closer look at the picture then she started lauhfing, and my brother was like cring beacase he really wanted that thing.

But after I told him that even if we would sell everything we had we couldn't buy that truck, he cooled down.

Before I moved in Canada I used to live in Romeinia and there was this big river and the worrkers used that kind of trucks to redirect the river. I even saw some, I dont think they were that big but they were preatty big.

Those who can do, do; those who can't do, teach.

This year will be highlighted by Great American, one of the biggest insurers in the nation of independent owner-operators, which give more than just a bag of jewelry exhibition at the Salon this year Mid-America Truck. A lucky winner owner / operator will be randomly selected to receive the keys to a 2002 Freightliner Classic XL. This Freightliner will be completely rigged, according to Tim Clinton, director of marketing for Great American Trucking Division.

But anyway, you have the question "What can I look forward to from the largest event in the trucking industry? The star attraction for many homeowners operators is the third annual Big Rig Build Off.
