Not detecting ipod

It may be a stupid question but ive tried everything i can think to do. I just downloaded winamp 5.621 and it doesnt seem to be detecting my 5th generation ipod nano. That is, the "devices" tab is greyed out and there simply isn't a "portables" tab that everyone ive asked has mentioned. Ive tried reconnecting the ipod, and reinstalling winamp to no avail. Any ideas?

don't bump a thread 6 minutes after first posting - it's just plain rude and is verging on a post-pumping violation so consider this as a warning.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

from the faq at http://www.winamp.com/help/FAQ

Can I manage my portable music devices & players with Winamp 5?

Yes. Winamp 5 seamlessly integrates support for iPod (Shuffle, Video, Nano (not 5th gen) & Classic models, but currently NOT Touch or iPhone models), Creative Nomad/Zen/MuVo, PlaysForSure (P4S), USB Thumbdrive, Android smartphone and ActiveSync Device management. Note that Winamp does not support Zune.

Not detecting ipod

I had the same problem - here's what I did - and now my problem is gone - (correlation - not necessarily cause and effect)

1. Restore ipod to factory default
2. Update Ipod software
3. Update Itunes
4. In Itunes, set Options for the device to manually manage music and videos

Now I've got the ipod in winamp.

I suspect #4 is all it would have taken.

You have to have itunes? That sucks. I don't want itunes running on my computer. However, I want to add songs through winamp onto my ipod (4).

I don't have itunes. Haven't used it in years.

My problem is that Winamp keeps crashing when I try to discover devices. When I choose Discover, it never gets past the "Loading" phase, and then the program will usually freeze and crash.

I have a fifth generation video iPod.

I'm just guessing. When you uninstall Winamp, delete the folder from Program Files. Then re-install. Make sure you keep a good check boxes during the install. I don't know if ipod support is installed by default or if you need to check something to make it work.

I've tried to use the default iPod manager that comes with winamp and also dl'ing ml_ipod....

Is there a place I can download earlier versions of Winamp?
