multiple file/folder enqueue/playing

win xp sp2
p4 3.35ghz
1gig ram
intergrated snd card on gigabyte mobo

i can only que single folders or files instead of multiples...i have used winamp for years and this has never been a probmem b4, earlier today i was queing up multiple folders i got an error similiar to this 'when queing up 20 files can take several minutes or cause your computer to stop responding'...i can only 'play' or 'enqueue' a single folder at a time. i have completed a clean install per instructions in this forum, using both v2.9 and 5.04full neither worked. i also have a hijack this report for ya...

am i loosing my mind? i would have thought a clean install would work, letalone 2 of them with seperate versions (which were cleanly removed prior to installing next version)

for some reason i can not attach the txt file of hijack this let me know if this is a prob..

First of all, 2.9 and 5.04 are no longer supported.
Only 5.08d or 5.08e are supported.

You say you did a clean install, as per these instructions...

However, that warning message sounds similar to the one which comes from the 3rd-party Dynamic Library plugin (Prefs > Dynamic Library > General tab > Display warnings when about to perform potentially slow operations).

Where are you enqueing files/folders from?
From Windows Explorer folders?
From the Winamp media library?
From a 3rd-party plugin window, such as Dynamic Library?
From somewhere else?

Re: HJT log
If you're going to attach it, then you need to save it as hijackthis.txt instead of hijackthis.log (txt files are valid for attachments, but log files aren't).
Either that, or just copy+paste the FULL text into your next post in this thread.

thanks

i am trying to enqueing form windows explorer, i have also tried to do multiples from winamps media library, still no luck.
I have just did another clean wipe/install of 5.08d, still i can not que more than one file at a time.
i use no 3rd party plugins (i did use one that was supposed to help randomize tracks, but havn't installed it since upgrading...i used to be able to do this all day long, now poof...nothing, when i highlight the multiple folders/files and click 'play in winamp' it just sits there and dosn't respond in any way.

Have you maybe disabled the WinXP DCOM Server Process Launcher service?

Apart from that, I think we might need to see a HijackThis log,
to see all Startup items and currently running processes.

Maybe, not sure. It depends on which ones you've disabled, heh.

I don't see any major issues with your HJT log, no malware anyway.

The only slight issue could be with Ram_XP.
It's not recommended to run any 3rd-party memory management apps under WinXP.
However, I doubt if RAM_XP is the cause of your problem... ?

Open HJT again, click on "Open the Misc Tools section"
Checkmark "list also minor sections" and "list empty sections"
then click "Generate StartupList Log"

How experienced/comfortable are you with using regedit?
(just need to check a couple of registry entries)

Hmm, let's use this simple method instead....

Download the attached zip file
Unzip it and run the RegQuery.bat file
The .bat will query a few registry keys,
and a text file should appear on the desktop (RegQuery.txt)

Zip up the StartUpList log and RegQuery.txt file and attach them here.

I looked at the logs...

The winamp and dir Play/Enqueue command lines are correct.

I can only assume that it's either one of those disabled services to blame (not sure which one though), but some of them should be set to Manual instead of Disabled.

Or it's one of those funky Explorer policies to blame.

Did you create those policies manually, or did you use some 3rd-party app to do it?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies

No, no-one's ever reported having this particular issue.
There has been reports where play/enqueue didn't work at all, because the DCOM service was disabled...

Apart from that, try another clean install of Winamp, and make sure you delete the whole Winamp folder before reinstalling it (see the Clean Install instructions for further info, backups, etc).

I'm pretty certain that error message you were getting is from the Dynamic Library plugin. Are you saying that you've never installed Dynamic Library before?

never used dynamic library (not to my knowledge) can't find anything on my box that looks like that plugin, is there anyway i can check to see if its on here??

I will try to enable services to default settings and see if that helps (do you know an easy way to do that? without having to work with each service individualy?)

I don't know anything about the Explorer policies, where they came from etc...should i remove them??

thanks for all your help so far
hopefully we can get this working again... winamp is the best!

The Dynamic Library plugin filename is GEN_DL.DLL or GEN_LIBRARY.DLL (older version) and would be found in the Winamp\Plugins folder.
This 3rd-party plugin is not included with the default Winamp distro and would need to have been downloaded separately:

Hmm, most weird...

Ok, let's start again.

So.... Winamp is open,
you then open a windows explorer window,
(eg. My Computer > browse to music folder)
You left click on a subfolder, then use Ctrl+click to select more subfolders,
you then right-click one of the selected folders,
(or go to: File menu)
and click "Enqueue in Winamp"...

What happens?

Do any of the files get added to the Winamp playlist?

thats the process exactly, i hit "play in winamp" or "enqueue in winamp" and nothing, no hourglass, no opening of winamp (or queing to winamp if its already open)simply no response. the "right click menu" disappears, but thats it. No files are opened by winamp.

If I use this process to select multiple files, not folders, it works fine.

I have searched for the dynamic library files you listed and had neither of them on my system, all of this crazyness started with that darn error msg. I love winamp and i have experimented with 5 other audio players these past few days, and nothing stacks up against WINAMP, truley a quality product, just wish we could get this figured out.

I am an overclocker, don't think this is related but ya never know, I have used one winamp plugin in the past called "amp randimozier" to get a better random function out of winamp, and dfx to help get more out of my speakers. Perhaps I should have mentioned that b4, but after all of these clean installs per instructions, I didn't think they were to blame.

Well, after looking at the RegQuery.txt again, all I can think of is that one of these entries is causing some kind of conflict...?

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers\RadMnu]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\DragDropHandlers\NRadExt2]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\DragDropHandlers\NRadExt2]
@="{75B8D633-9021-442C-9EA4-FF4BE72CE20F}"

I doubt if it's Winrar, ICQ or SpySweeper, but I'm not sure about the other ones - RadMenu/NRadExt2, LDVPMenu, ZillaDataNukerContextMenu - what ARE those exactly?
I think LDVPMenu is something to do with Symantec/Norton, and I guess that ZillaDataNuker is this. That just leaves RadMenu/NRadExt2... something to do with RadClock/overclocking maybe?

you got it exactly, the radclock stuff is vid card overclocking utility. Think that could have any effect?

elraf had wanted us to look at the hijackthis log, i think he marked one selection with "-osboot" out to the right, although that could have been there from the begining and i wouldn't have noticed it.

I've still got windows default options for services, etc. Think i should unclock everything and try again?

Yeah, no harm in trying, I guess...

I'm not sure what elraf's post was about.
Where did he mark anything?
Did the two of you have some kind of private conversation somewhere?

The -osboot entry is related to RealPlayer's updater process, commonly classed as spyware. It's pointless trying to fix that entry with HJT, because it will just come back again next time you reopen RealPlayer. The option needs to be disabled somewhere in the RealPlayer preferences.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\K-Lite Codec Pack\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

However, I'm not sure why the hell RealPlayer is installed in the K-Lite Codec Pack folder. Never seen that before, heh. Surely RealPlayer doesn't come with K-Lite Cocec Pack... maybe RealAlternative does, but there's no realsched.exe with RealAlt, it's a RealPlayer feature only.
If RealPlayer isn't installed, then fix that entry with HJT and delete realsched.exe

Though I doubt if that's got anything to do with the Folder context menu not working for Play/Enqueue in Winamp...

Have you also tried disabling that RAM Idle thing as well?

I have also disabled the ramidle with no change in winamp.

i have just received this error as well
"winamp.exe application error
The instruction at "0x08709f63 refrenced mem that could not be read"

Sorry, but I honestly don't have a clue what's causing the problem. I've never seen or heard of this "enqueuing multiple files can take several minutes" warning before, and no-one's ever reported it before except for you. So I'm honestly not sure where it's coming from. If I or anyone else could help, I/they would.
