Hi Eax,
How are you adding files to the playlist? Drag & drop from Windows Explorer, enqueue from Windows Explorer, enqueue from the media library, etc. ? I have seen this behavior in several versions and it seems to depend on exactly how files are added to the playlist. I'm using a custom ATF string. Sometimes the string is fully show and other times the file must be played in order for the string to be fully displayed. Windows 11 Home 64-bit v22H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

Hi Aminifu,
I almost always use the add dir option in the playlist (insert button as a shortcut). Drag and drop and enqueue work fine, the only add dir option doesn't load the duration when files are added. |

Hi Eax,
We're not talking about the same thing. I misunderstood what you meant by duration (or play length). But the added detail you provided is what the devs need to fix things. I don't remember ever using that option. There are so many ways to use Winamp. ![]() Thank you for responding back. Windows 11 Home 64-bit v22H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

Hi Eax,
Did you try what DrO suggested in post #44 above (changing the metadata reading option)? Windows 11 Home 64-bit v22H2 desktop - Logitech Z906 5.1 speaker system |

the changes in 5.64 / 5.65 with playlist loading shouldn't have caused option #1 to fail and trying to check all of the changes doesn't show a reason why those changes have caused this.
the next beta should fix it, though using the option #4 i'd mentioned achieves the desired result without locking up Winamp on file / playlist loading as much as happens when using option #1. |

though it's still recommended to use the background reading option instead of the read on load due to it giving a poorer experience. |

your issue is different from the fix you've quoted so it is not a surprise its still not fixed (since its not been looked into yet).

Winamp is still confused by some VBR files and shows the wrong song length. And I've been telling you about for a long time. How an "ultimate" player can that be when ALL the other players report the correct file length? How long until you fix it? Is it so hard??

I assume you have also tried contacting RealPlayer for a fix to their bug? Why don't you upload some of your example files? Nothing can be done without them. luckily, you will not get your way. that's b/c you are rude, and its b/c you are wrong. it is not the job or duty of an app to cover up one's garbage. take out your own trash.

Hi sorein,
Winamp does not include the extra code to look for and work around file header issues. Maybe it should, maybe not. Once it starts down that road, where does it end? Some other apps do try to figure out header errors. They have to offer more to compete. Just saying ... ![]() I agree with BP and MrS, Winamp does a very good job with properly encoded files. It is the user's job to provide that or look elsewhere for a player to meet their needs. Yes, I'm a Winamp fan. Been one for over 15 years. i've now had a chance to look and the issue is due to the french language pack not having a new resource in it which caused things to fail. i've put in a work around so the dialog will appear in english if a translated version is not present which should allow it to work for you.

Winamp v5.65 (x86) - Jul 23 2013

Method of Reproduction: =================== 1: Create a folder with 101 subfolders. Sample batch file below will create 101 subfolders in whatever directory it's executed from. @ECHO OFF FOR /L %%A IN (1, 1, 101) DO ( MKDIR %%A ) 2: Press INS in Winamp to get the "Open Folder" dialog. 3: Select one of the 101 subfolders, ie, 6. 4: Press INS again, notice that it shows only "6" being a subfolder, the other 100 are gone. 5: Want the problem to "go away"? Delete any 1 of the subfolders to get the count back to 100. A screenshot showing the problem as a .png is in the attached .zip file. The attachment manager wouldn't accept valid .png's or .jpgs, claiming they were corrupt when they most certainly were not. (Maybe a bug report for another day...) |

I'm not sure if I overlooked something or if it matters given the news, but this:
Misc: [installer] Added a "Winamp (Safe Mode)" option to start menu icons seems to be missing? is it in there? if yes, where? if no, any chance this or other lil bugs that might crop up in this release get fixed for a very minor point release? it'll only have been set if you checked the option during install to add Winamp to the start menu.

ah yes, my mistake, I see it there. I thought it was going to have a checkbox in the installer and place an icon on the desktop. its a nice addition.

Clicking "Enqueue in Winamp" from the context menu plays the file(s) instead of queueing them in the playlist. Please fix this issue ASAP. I had to downgrade to the previous version because this was a feature I used frequently. Thank you ![]() ![]() |

Do any/all of you guys have the Enqueue & Play plugin (ml_enqplay.dll) from the Essentials Pack installed, by any chance?
If yes, try removing it. Afaik, it needs updating... hopefully coming soon. Or maybe you've got Enqueue & Play set as the default action in Prefs > File Types > Shell Options? [EDIT] Scrap that. I can reproduce it :-( A song needs to be playing first, and sure enough, the 'Enqueue' shell action is working as 'Enqueue & Play'. Seems to be an issue with JTFE (gen_jumpex.dll). If I remove gen_jumpex, then Enqueue is working again, but seems to be inserting the song(s) after the currently playing item instead of at the end of the playlist. Oops.... |

can it be fixed? sounds like a bug is present with and without jtfe. can jtfe be modified enough to account for and fix both bugs?
if not, any chance of a minor point release to fix these? PENN STATE Radio or http://www.LION-Radio.org/ -- BUG #1 = Winamp skips short tracks Wish #1 = Multiple Column Sorting Wish #2 = Add TCMP/Compilation editing |

the whole of the JTFE shell handling needs to be re-written as it was known that some parts were broken with other changes which had to be made to get it supporting other required changes for the 5.66 release. as i own the source code, the plug-in can be updated irrespective of whatever may happen. so apologies to all that i've screwed this up for though i think you can try toggling some of the options to get it like before, but i cannot remember which at the moment.

Drag and drop to "Local Library" not working.
-Winamp 5.66 (not sure about build but it's the Nov 20, 2013 release) - clean install on Nov 21, 2013
-No language pack -Bento Skin -System specs: -MOBO (I think): Intel(R) 7 Series Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controller -CPU: Intel Core i5-3317U -RAM: 8.00 GB -Windows OS: Windows 8.1 (x64) -Video Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 (Version 10.18.10.3316, Oct 1, 2013) -Sound Card: Intel(R) Display Audio (Version 6.16.0.3106, Jan 11, 2013) -DirectX 11 Problem: -In all recent versions of Winamp that I have had I could simply drag an mp3 file to "Local Library: Audio" in order to add it to the library. The newest update (installed on Nov 21, 2013) doesn't seem to allow it. The "add" (arrow with a little plus sign) icon appears when I drag and hover the file over "Library: Audio" but the file is not added. I have to go in through "File>Add Media to Library" and then browse to the folder/file. I add files and folders quite often and not having the drag/drop convenience is a bit annoying. Is this just me? Is there a setting I'm missing to be able to do this again? Thanks in advance! |

@JohnDee
Hmm, I can't reproduce the problem here. I just made a copy of an existing mp3, dragged it from Explorer and dropped it on the Local Media > Audio tree item, and then I went to the Recently Added view and the newly added file was at the top of the list. I would normally suggest that it's something like Winamp running in admin mode to blame, but then you'd see the red cursor indicating that drag+drop is unavailable, instead of the normal d+d cursor. Maybe it's a permissions-related issue, or some badly-behaving plugin to blame...? I know you said "clean install", but was the Winamp\Plugins folder definitely non-existent/empty before installing 5.66? |

I can confirm that Zithromax's workaround/fix works. Thanks.
The only quirk being.... It's also adding the enqueued item to the JTFE Play Queue Or if the song is already in the playlist (e.g. if a large playlist is loaded) and you "Enqueue in Winamp" the same song from Explorer, then the original playlist entry for that song also gets added to the JTFE Play Queue. Maybe this isn't such a bad thing though, but it is a change of behaviour. Before, it just added the enqueued item(s) to the end of the current playlist only. It didn't also add them to the JTFE Play Queue (which it shouldn't if the main EnqPlay option is unchecked in JTF options). What it means is that the first enqueued item will play next, even if there's still a number of existing songs in the playlist before it. Hopefully it can be fixed so we can get the expected behaviour back... |

I've noticed a slight skip in the first 5-15 seconds (it varies) of every 4th or 5th song I play. Have not had this problem until going to 5.66.
I am playing the song in a playlist, not in the local library. |
