I found radionomy office using street view. Now we just need someone to make a giant winamp llama have it hanging from a noose outside their the building. Guerilla tactics may be the only way to save winamp.

Now THAT is a great idea.
Officer: Excuse me sir, why are you beating this animal? Alrock: It's a Llama, and I am whipping its ass because I want an update to software that I use. Officer: I see.... The search for the ultimate signature continues apace. I have journeyed from the peaks of Nepal to the depths of oceanic trenches. I have crossed deserts, jungles, swamps, savannas, steppes and frozen wastelands. I have consulted with seers, swamis, sages, scholars and savants. The peregrination proceeds purposefully. |

At this point, the mp3 format might be dead by the time this is ready.
Honestly, if they had a kickstarter to get funding, they could hire a proper software engineer. |

What they need is to pick up and continue developing from Winamp v2.95 — the last version that was still salvageable. Original Winamp was dead when version 3.x came out. And from my, regular user's perspective, Winamp 5.x has absolutely nothing in common with the original Winamp that we all used to like.

Winamp 2.95 was indeed a great version of the software it served me well when I used it
I was a latecomer to Winamp I only started at 2.91 I used it to play files I'd downloaded from AudioGalaxy (I know that's going back 19 years now) |

Uh, Winamp 5.0 was Winamp 2.x w/ modern skin support. You do know you can still use the classic skin right?

The 2.9x versions in particular already have a lot in common with 5.0 (library, video, cd ripping), too much in fact for some traditionalists who at the time chose to stick with 2.81 or even older versions (never mind that you could always choose not to install those features).
(And of course the 2.9 branch is newer than Winamp3 etc yadda yadda.) |

It seems silly to me to simply give up hope. There might not be a lead developer working on the project, but that doesn't mean it's dead. Radionomy paid a good chunk of cash for it. While it wouldn't be the first time a company has paid money for something, only to never use it, it's silly to theink an small company like Radionomy would do that.
Don't get me wrong. Things look bleak. That doesn't mean nothing will ever come of this, or that Winamp is dead. I've got faith that this will get sorted, and a new version will happen. |

Hey guys. Just signed up to ask what the latest winAMP I could safely use is? I used it for years on my studio PC to play audio coz it's a neat little player that did everything I wanted and didn't fill up my screen. Plus it didn't ask me to sign up to new crap all the time. It was just the perfect little audio player

BTW, Nice site, but it baffles my why you would promote a player in this way if you're not getting paid. ![]() |

Winamp still going strong here on Windows 7 but I'm starting to wonder if there are security bugs we should worry about? I'm sure there are if the hackers wanted to find them, it's another reason they should get serious about an update.
DrO did a lot with Winamp and they threw him to the curb. Way to treat contributors but that's the way it is with big companies when they get their hands on other people's work. |

Anyone trying to hack something will want a big target. The pool of Winamp users is far, far too small.

It's probably not something that we need to stop using Winamp over, unless there's a huge IE-type security hole opening up our data to everyone, in which case it should be fixed if Radionomy knows about it.
VLC player does play shoutcast/icecast stations and they keep their player up to date but for me Winamp is still the best. |

Hello Winamp users... From time to time, I check on this thread without even a glimmer of hope that a new release of Winamp will be announced. Winamp might be dead, but it is not vaporware. I have run 5.65 on Windows 8.1 and 10 without any problems. Security bugs were never a concern of mine. However, if there were any, turning off my internet connection will solve them. I've also been enjoying installing 2.95 on my virtual machines running Windows 95 or 98. If a new version of Winamp comes out, would we even want it? I love the Winamp that I "grew up" with. So, I will continue to check this thread. BTW, I love the idea of getting a live llama and whipping its ass over at Radionomy.

Depends, if it's just the trimmed version that 5.8 is supposed to be (and stable) then maybe. But if it's radionomified then I wouldn't touch it.
