A lot of sites running the rumor that it won't shut down http://www.bing.com/news/search?q=winamp

I'm not getting my hopes up (plenty of hours left to go today) but it feels spooky not knowing what's going to happen.

completely agree with luighann,
but to be honest I don't really care, my Winamp runs perfectly at the moment,
I've got several backups, and will continue to use it no matter what's going on

AOL have probably forgotten to switch it off.

That or we are currently experiencing our "Free 1000 Hours!"

Given the lack of attention AOL has had for winamp, I wouldn't even be surprised

I wonder how many CD's are still out there

Winamp.com and associated web services will no longer be available past December 20, 2013.
If you read the message, it says Services will no longer be available PAST Dec 20.
I'm guessing tomorrow may tell a story.

Now THAT'S funny.

Hopefully they realized that while trying to get an agreement finalized with 'a third party' it's not wise to shut things off. Since word was Shoutcast would at least survive for now I was also curious how they could kill the forums with all the Shoutcast forums integrated.

Guess I'll check back tomorrow and see if something still loads. So far this is a good sign.

It would be nice to keep this place. I invested a lot of time into posts here, as did many others, and I reference threads here all the time for all sorts of reasons.

This is AOL.
The same AOL that used to take 3 days to connect me to the internet just to read an email.

This site and its forums may still be up in 3 years until some random member of staff realises and turns it all off.

So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.

This goes perfectly with it.

But knowing its AOL (like "Jkey" said) it may last some years.

Anyway. Thank you all for letting me be part of your community, even if it was only a year (I've been using Winamp since 2002 but never thought of logging in here)

No it just means they can't guarantee service after the 20th. So after the 20th no one is manning the ship. Which means that the "services" not being available, means that if they crash or have problems, no one will be there to fix it. Presto bango, vulnerabilities will be exploited in the forums and it will be over run with bots selling boner pills.

If you have problems getting a boner, every winamp cloud has a silver lining I guess.

If anyone is buying boner pills from anyone I will be the seller damnit. I'll even throw in a free AOL cd to boot. They make great coasters.

But hey, if no one is paying attention how about someone turn the Shoutcast hosting back on too?

Not true. Most people check on Winamp at least twice a year to see if it has woken up from its coma.

you completely missed the point of my comment (and without the posts before it makes it out of context and pointless to just quote as-is) since it was not based on users not paying attention, but the view of some users of what things were like from the other side of the fence.
