Bugs Found. These MP3 files crashes on Add/Play

These mp3 files cannot be loaded into the Winamp library. As soon as I add it, Winamp crashes.

I'm using Winamp 5666 Full SV-SE. (Swedish Package) But I installed it in English.
I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 Build 7601 x64.

I don't have anything else installed like plugins or that. I only downloaded the free full version from the website and installed it with the Big Bento (Large). And removed the first option (Winamp Agent) and the second one (Winamp Detecter Plug-in)

I got codecs for video files for Media Player Classic. But I don't think that is a cause for these crashes.

These mp3 files are downloaded from a website called http://osu.ppy.sh/
This website provides a free Music Rhythm Game, and I got about 7000 songs from this.
Some have different fonts from other countries and so forth, if this information might help you find the cause of the crash.

Hi

http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?t=156839#known2

Do they still crash if you use in_mp3.dll from 5.666 build 3512?
(see above link for info/download)

They did now load successfully and played.
Thanks.

Then I must ask this..

Why does a NEWER build version have more faults than a very old one?
And why is not this mp3 build added instead of the new one?
And what did I actually lose by degrading it to an older build?

It's not "a very old one".
Build 3512 was built/released a couple of weeks before build 3516.

See the changelogs for more info

Winamp 5.666 Build 3516
- [in_mp3] Fixed crash on missing genre string with pledit shift+e dialog

So that crash was fixed in the 3516 version, but the 3516 version also has your id3v2 tag crash bug.

Alas, mainly due to the ownership switchover, we currently don't have an in_mp3.dll available which includes all the fixes :-(

To err is human.

There is no such thing as error-free software. There is always the chance of unintended consequences when 'upgrading or fixing' software. IMHO, the Winamp developers should be applauded, viewing the amount of work done in such a short time for what was thought to be the last Winamp release.

In addition, Winamp has always been more sensitive to digital encoding differences than other apps. The mp3 standard is applied so differently by various encoders and/or tagging apps that it seems to not be a standard at all. In my 15 year experience with Winamp, fixing a mp3 file's header data or replacing the file (with one encoded/tagged properly) has always allowed Winamp to work with it.

Egg, can't they be told an official patch needs to be put out ASAP so an official 105 ver is released? why would they hold up a badly needed patch?

is most likely due to required licensing of MP3 playback needing to be sorted out and a dev team I wouldn't be surprised.

the downgrade is a perfectly acceptable solution as yes 104 fixes an issue with empty genre handling but that was far more of a niche issue over the crash issue 104 introduced (and for reference the genre issue had been around for ages anyway).

oh, I see. I thought all those license contracts would have xferred with the purchase.

would all depend on the details of the deal and what can / cannot be transferred against existing licensing details i.e. who it's for. whatever the case, i'd not expect to see a new desktop release having the exact same level of functionality as what went before (as there's at least one area of licensing i hope they don't maintain but will just have to wait and see what comes).

Would that area happen to be the Gracenote supported stuff?
