Mozilla or Mozilla?!

HELP! My friend who has never used or heard of Mozilla before is here and just saw me opening the browser. He said the name of what he saw, "Mah-zillah". But when he said it, he pronounced it differently, and so I went and corrected him, saying no, you pronouce it "Moe-zillah". But right when I said that I looked at the screen and saw the dinosaur that mozilla uses on their website (kinda their mascot). This reminded me of Godzilla, and I said "God-zillah". I then realized omg. He's right. It is "Mah-zillah", like "God-zilla"

This is too painful! This happened to me with many other words, including "Nullsoft", "beta", "GIF" and others! I can't take it!

I think I am just going to have to live my life always mispronouncing words.

I say moe-zilla.

How do you mispronounce nullsoft?

I know gif is supposed to be pronounced jiff, but for years i've always sounded the g as in "go", so i dont think i'll be able to change that.

I pronounce beta as bay-ta (probably because i watch too many american tv shows), even though most people here in aus i know pronounce it bee-ta.

1 entry found for mozilla.

mozilla

<World-Wide Web, body, open source> The open source web
browser, designed for standards-compliance, performance, and
portability, whose development is coordinated by mozilla.org.

The Mozilla project started in March 1998 when Netscape
Communications Corporation released the source code of
Netscape Communicator. The now abandoned version based on
that code is referred to as "Mozilla Classic". Since then,
much has been rewritten, including the layout engine, the
networking library, and the front-end.

mozilla.org was set up by Netscape in January 1998 to
coordinate development and to provide a point of contact for
interested people. Mozilla 1.0 was finally released on
2002-06-05.

Although a lot of Mozilla code is under the original Netscape
Public License, some parts of the code are under the Mozilla
Public License or dual MPL/GPL.

"Mozilla" was the original project code name for Netscape
Navigator and, according to some of the documentation, the
correct pronunciation of "Netscape".

bah. it's moe-zilla. and if it was pronounced like "godzilla", it'd be maw-zilla (omitting the "d" from "god"), surely?

I'd pronounce it like "Firebird", but I fear retribution from militant database developers.

Moz-illa. Coz that's the way I like it.

I don't really care about pronunciation of computer terms. If someone corrects me, unless it's something I know I am doing wrong, I just ignore them. that's the way to achieve true bliss :P.

I always pronounce Mozilla like Moe-zilla.
I've only heard beta pronounced one way, and that's the way in the dictionary - Merriam-Webster pronounciation: http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/audio.pl?beta0001.wav=beta
I think Nullsoft is obviouslly NULL followed by SOFT. and I've only heard NULL pronounced one way also ( http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/audio.pl?null0001.wav=null )
