Lightbulb KameleonDUI

KameleonDUI
I think its usable enough to be posted here. So, here's KameleonDUI on its alpha stage.

Download KameleonDUI-alpha-001.wal (1.1MB)

This still on its alpha stage so there still alot of stuff thats not working so bear with me for now. And im expecting a lot of bugs still so bug reporting is appreciated.

two main features:

1. Dynamic User Inteface v2.0 - (yey!) Attach/detach "any" components into the main player. With v2.0 it now have 4 DUI windows in which the components could be attach. It also allows users to move components from one DUI window to another.

2. Kameleon Faceplate - (yey! also) Change the player's faceplate to any color using RGB sliders or switch to the 15 (more to come) included faceplate texture. if you still cant find the right faceplate... load/add your own PNG/JPG to the list of textures on-the-fly!! (goto config panel/customize and click on the "+" button to add a new bitmap.)

NOTE: You cant remove add images for now ("-" button still not working). Only way to remove added images for now is to delete studio.xnf.

There a lot more features in it and more come.

Have fun!

This is by far the skin of the year! This skin is like a whole new Winamp Music player. You should take your inspirations that you added in this skin and patent them and make Leech Music player. Take yer time and make it perfect.

Somethings I noticed.

Smooth the edges of the player.

Try to make the windows AVS, ML ect.. stick within the frame of the Main better when moved, We had this trouble with Warp, dont know if there is a cure.

Whole thing uses alot of CPU, streamline the function somehow.

Add a quik color picker for the color changer.

Anyway my friend HOMERUN!

im afraid not. although im thinking of doing KameleonDUI Slim Edition in the future. for some reason, i wanted this skin to be big.

Are you talking about the standardframe windows or the DUI (attached) windows. if its the DUI windows, maybe resize the main player and make it bigger. maybe the components are all on their minimum dimensions. if its the standardframe windows, then i dont know, it seems to be working fine on my side.

I cant. Because of the customizable faceplate, i cant have desktop alpha on.

I dunno if there's a solution to this. Its more of a winamp limitation.

Quote:

If i dont move it cpu usage seems to be fine. Moving the main player with lots of attached components increases the cpu usage. ill try to streamline some more stuff although im not sure if it'll improve.

Yup thats in my list. im also thinking of having an option to use HSL sliders instead of RGB.

Also, contributions/help are welcome. if you have some cool backgrounds to share, please do. i might include it in the final package.

Thanks again.

This image system of yours is what I would have needed to complete the pulsedriver skin... I was going to make a system where one could choose buttons to use with the stick mode and this appearanlty looks somewhat in the direction I was thinking of...

Is that function which slided images a feature of winamp or is it a hard work of coding?

Could you summary this way with a keyword maybe to get me on the right track?

And the RGB colorpicker... how does that work?

slided images is hard coding made even harder by the fact that its dynamic meaning you can add/subtract to and from the list.

if you have a fixed number of images it would be easier. all you need to do is to line up all images in a group e.g. lets name it ListGroup. then place the group inside another group eq. ListGroupWindow. ListGroupWindow will be the window which the the images will slide. then with a button control, just move ListGroup horizontally inside ListGroupWindow. then you have sliding images! check out config.m on Kameleon to see how it works. If still you have problems, PM me ur script or skin, maybe i could lend u a hand.

RGB colorpicker? its only a <rect> object in which i modify the color="R,G,B" using scripts based on 3 sliders. i just placed all my bevels above it makes it look more 3D.

to pick from a swatch all you'd need to do is produce the swatches image in another language using exact HSL values pixel for point, so for example it would be like this:

H (and X): 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ....
H (and X): 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ....
H (and X): 0 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 ....

then when the user clicked we would know which colour he clicked on.

easier way is to use bitmap maps. using photoshop, separate your swatch image to a grayscale Red, Green and Blue. then when the user click on the swatch image, it takes the coordinate where it was clicked on and load the RGB value from the 3 maps.

Yeah, but it's not how you pick a color I am wondering about.. cause I could probably make a program for that one way or another, but how do you apply the changes.. what function is used to apply and what event-handler do you use to apply

control box is resizable. resize it any size u want. actually it might get bigger. there are a lot stuff i still need to add to it.

answered it already in previous post but here it is again: its only a <rect> object in which i modify the color="R,G,B" using scripts based on 3 sliders. i just placed all my bevels above it to make it look 3D.

drawbacks includes killing desktop alpha and you might need to redo ur base graphics to separate the bevels (higlights and shadows) from the base color.

there's no way to change color of images on fly. thats why i used <rect>

i think you guys have a point. those buttons are a bit too big. i'll surely modify that and probably make it about the size of the shuffle/repeat buttons. but that's after i got all the other stuff coded.

@pulsedriver: yes, <rect> object is what u need.

This looks very promising !
I like that more skinners come up with their version of a single UI skin. I've been waiting for 'Single UI' for almost a year, so i'm using clasic skins instead now. (anunaki in party mode is nice to, but the controls area is too big)
When you get this one finished it could become THE best skin i've ever seen, and make me use modern skin again
Are you going to implement the playlist buttons add rem sel misc & some more colour settings, / partymode? ,
make it remember the weith of the playlist,

Veeeery nice job !!! keep going on it.
If there were a single UI skin contest you've already won

*sigh (still) under construction*

thank you.

playlist, video, and avs buttons will come on next beta release, including some few color themes. partymode? i am/was thinking of adding it but probably will be the last priority. stick mode is the priority for now.

Well, a complete window mode like the one you had in mMonkey skin wud be appreciated. Party mode is really not needed. Stick mode however doesn't seem to fit the idea of dui. How do you intend it to be? Like drawers containing components?

i always think that a winamp skin is not a winamp skin unless there's a stick mode. im thinking to go with drawers with components or if i get lazy ill just detach any attached components when switching to stick mode like what the modern skin does. we'll see.

im not really a genius but thank you for thinking that way.
the real genius are the people who made skins where i got my ideas/inspirations from (default modern, SUI, most of RPC's skins and a lot more other skins) and the devs that made Winamp/MAKI for allowing me to do all of this stuff. all i do is extend their ideas.
i think its safe to say that winamp has the BEST skinning engine on all the media players.

i didn't say it would make the skin looking unusual, i said it would make the skin looking unbalanced.

and if you think i'd be one of the "some people like things like they always have been..."-guys, check my skins out.

I see your point. The window-buttons are bigger than the play control buttons. I had nothing better to say yesterday :P And no, I don't think you make bad or boring skins :P

But a skin have to features people usually overweight depending on who they are. There is usuability, which those ppl who like this usually go wa2 skin instead, and those who either like desing out of the ordenary cause it's very good looking or it has a userinterface.

And optimal skin would have both.
