strange domain referring to winamp

Hi, I've found a very strange domain
http://www.playerask.com/

it led to the winamp site???
and now the really strange thing:
my own domain is http://jonnyrimkus.square7.ch (hosted by square7)
but when I enter http://jonnyrimkussquare7.playerask.com/
it led to my site.

anybody know who's behind that domain and why it refers to foreign sites?
...is it legal?

thanks in advance

This seems to be a Chinese registered domain. I'm guessing this is some way to avoid "The Great Firewall of China".

hmm would make sense....
thx for bringing some light into this, I was just a little bit surprised
to find my webpage under a foreign domain name. I'm not sure how I should think about
it, this domain name is okay,
but if think deeper, I don't want to see my web page with a racism domain name or s.th like that...
is there anything I as a private party could do, if I don't want that?

kind regards
Ravermeister

EDIT: or it is the NSA Data Crawler

As far as I know, everybody is free to register every site they want. If you want it, you'll have to register it before someone else does.

yeah but am I allowed to redirect to another site? cause if so,
I could rent domain names like worstmediaplayer.com or virusfactory.com and refer to winamp....
and if do it with more domains, and let them crawl by search engines,
winamp will occur, if I search worst media player....

so you could slander the company/person you don't like.
I can't imagine that this is legal...

what would you do if you find a domain
like (just an example to clearify the problem) cheapwhore.com which is refering to your
private Website?

I KNOW that grabbing content from a site (e.g with php and a socket request or with jquery...) and host it under YOUR domain IS NOT LEGAL,
but I don't know how it is with redirects...
but for a search engine that doesn't mind, it combines the link name (source and all meta data with this doimain) with the target,
and if I search for the link name I will see the target as a result allthough the content itself
has nothing to do with the search criteria.

I think it depends if it's actually copying your files to their server or if they're just forwarding the user.

And more importantly, the country that the server's in. Different countries have different laws.
It's the freedom of the internet. At least, that's what I believe. I'm not a lawyer.

The server would spit the real url back at a search engine looking at a forwarded domain. i.e. goo.gl shortened urls spider, but the search engine ignores the shortened url.

The only reason I could think to do this is to get around a firewall.

Here I've used goo.gl to escape the spam filters when they exclude something legit.

For example... all urls with dot tv are *****'ed out by the forum filters. So, a url shortener will get you around that. Perhaps winamp.com is banned and won't resolve to an ip, so somebody rigged another domain to get around it.

It's not just an alias to the winamp forwards, there is an actual server with a redirect. As for legality, yeah, nothing anybody can do about it since the server is on RIPE

Simplicity in all things.
