YP Is Seriously Screwed

I've been broadcasting for about 2 hours and I've had numerous troubles Registering and showing up on the YP. When I Finally register, It takes over an hour to show up and when it does the stats are an hour old!

I've tried everything I could think of, Pinging my server's IP - Listening to my own streams to see if their was latency - even checking other streams for latency. SomaFM is 30 minutes late to confirm this. This is simply ridiculous.

oh and one of my streams isn't even registering!

The YP has always been laggy to get on and the listings too. Don't worry about it, they arn't going to fix it because you shouldn't relay on the YP for listeners.

No
it's just a matter of understanding the priorities of AOL

and the YP at shoutcast.com has a priority level dat is below zero

so like always , bitching etc won't help in anyway, just wait it out

Each Thursday a new show on Celtica Radio with Darkwave music.

i imagine this is not the case.

if the yp were to drop off the face of the earth the revenue would not be missed in the slightest as i doubt it actually represents .0000001% of Aols turnover.

Its just another page they own on the internet,

its a shame that aol are so closed shop about the whole thing as im sure there are many people who would and could assist in the day to day runnings of the yp on a volentary basis for the kudos alone as the yp is so depended on by many.

the systems were built for a purpose so they may aswell use them to their fullest potential.

it will probably get bought out by google at some point anyway

actually, you do need to rely on the yp for people to find you, epsecially if you play copyright music.

Sucks.

There are many ways of getting your station out there,

i totally agree with all of your valid points in the thread BUT there are many ways of advertising your radio without the yp which is what i was getting at.

However with everyones dependency on something that isnt as stable as it has been over the past years and with no one to talk to if you have problems and have to rely on a forum and hope your posts are seen it leaves everyone further down the river without a paddle without taking any licensing problems into consideration.

but it seems we can keep summising and bleeting as much as we like,

im sure with all the questions we have a good lawyer would be able to solve any prolems and get you off the hook were you to be contacted by the autorities, after all you are making an effort to be above board

i feel its just a case of flogging a willing horse and taking money from all the license payees while all the non payers carry on regardless without taking a second thought on paying fees.

is the whole thing a complete propaganda?

the yp has grown by appx 25% in just over one year, i bet the license revenue payments to the agencies have not.

but as the yp grows and more and more people depend on it,
it looks more and more incapable of taking the load and may go bang at some point,

a big respect goes out to the guys that look after the yp as they do hold it together but theres still no solid support format behind it so it cannot be counted on.

it would be nice to for aol to provide an official contact point just to stop it from being such an unknown entity.

but with statistics such as these they would need an army just to recieve the daily emails they would recieve so i can understand it

Listeners - 235,106
Servers - 16,682

I agree with you nick, I was simply pointing out the irony....

As you suggested, I am placing my money on the side of I am trying to keep myself above the board. If someone wants to slap my hands for getting people to my site, then so be it. And if it really came to that I am hoping that I could be gotten off the hook because, as mentioned, I am at least trying and there are numerous others who are not.

After all, isn't word of mouth the best form of getting your name out there?
