playback stops after re-installing Winamp

my copy of Winamp pro 5.6 was playing up (msvcr90.dll error)
i downloaded latest version of winamp and it installed just fine.
but now when i play a cd it stops after about 12 minutes of playback.

windows XP sp3
winamp 5.621

what do i need to do to make it play properly?
