Incredibly poor SHOUTcast streaming performance

Hi, ive jumped ship to WinAmp 3 from Sonique, however im getting incredibly poor SHOUTcast performance. It seems to stutter as it plays. I would really like a way around this if possible, as WinAmp 3 seems quite nice!

I have WinXP Home on a P4 1.8Ghz
I also have a 512K Cable Modem broadband connection
All settings are set to default
