Gaming banned in Greece
Riiggggghhht... I just read this
http://www.esreality.com/?a=post&id=220579 And I have to say... I'm pretty shocked! Why completely ban a form of entertainment. Even though, as the site already says.. it is common in some countries to ban a few games like Quake3 and such... I think banning every single video goes a bit to far. I don't think any goverment should have the right to do so!!!!!! P.s. I've read this on many sites... so it doesn't seem to be a hoax [(Hamylde)] |

I don't think that's possible... the two major OS include games... even paint can be considered as a game... (remember Mario Paint for SNES?) |

i think the game thing is a small issue compared to the other laws there.i also think the are brain washing those poor lil' children like(insert name here),that has to walk up hills both ways,in the snow just to go to that one room school in (insert town here)30 miles away.
the government is strict there and they decide what programs they can watch on tv(usa is not so strict). "Well, got to love you and leave you, need to go get into the shower and rub my hard naked body all over with soapy bubbles, I'll be back later to carry on playing.... It'll take you some time to get over the image of me naked in the shower......mind you don't masturbate to hard thinking about it...." - Mr.Jones |

My exfriend used to brag about how he came from Lesbos and he was a "Lesbian"....
Most games have never really held my attention anyways. The only ones I play are on my PSA - solitaire and Traffic. I'd love to ban CS and Quake ![]() <edit> Quote:

Fish, I'll join you. No more Quake or CS for anybody else. Massive-multiplayer FPS games should have the pure heart of a MMFPS game. Therefore Unreal Tournament must be implemented!!!

the ban's only on "interactive games". and imho the olympics are more of a sport than a game.

Thats too far.
How do you expect that the government of Greece have for entertainment? I wouldn't want to have to figure out what they do.

Yup.. the whole thing is pretty messed up. But this stupid law has bigger proportions than anybody can imagine. Think about this:
-most cell-phones have to be banned, cuz most of them have games on em (like Snake on Nokia cell phones) - Both Microsoft Windows and distros of Linux have to be changed. Since all of them have at least one cheap ass game on them - I could think of a thousand other products that have lil games on them... imagine what has to be banned or changed I think the Greek officials should care less about gambling problems (since everybody should be responsable for themself) and care more about their huge political probs with Turkey!!! REAL WAR..OR VIRTUAL WAR... which one is worse??? Is anybody in this forum from greece... I'd like to hear an opinion of "a victim" of this strang law. |

I never thought I'd live to see the day where censorship gets to an extreme level. America censors a lot here for no reason, but Greece takes the cake!

how the hell are they going to manage it? hire hundreds of police to go and break into houses and confiscate all games/computers? They'll have to get EVERY greek ISP to block ALL warez sites (but then look what happened when the riaa tried to get all mp3 sharing sites...), then you'll have to search any post going into greece that could contain a cd...

This website says that it only applies to public places, and somewhere else I read said this applied also to internet café's. I don't think it affects private playing. |

That's gonna go against what Best Buy is somewhat known for. Not entirley, but most of the crowding at the local Best Buys here are by the game consols...

Actually I've read on a couple of sites, that the law applies everywhere... home, public, Netcafes... I haven't researched the topic that much.. so I'm not that sure... But that's what I've heard

uner that law, you could be in trouble for having a copy of Microsoft excel 97, because there is an easter egg in the program that is a game.

Same thing for the Fast and the Furious DVD, since it has a PC demo of the Supercar Street Challenge game on it...

You see, many of the smaller internet cafes where people went to have been closed down but there are still some big ones that remain open and will remain open for good. This law hasnt affected people in general in Greece as the Greek police is corrupted just as it is everywhere else in the world (at least the Greeks have the balls to admit that they are corrupt) unlike certain countries like the US and England who can do no wrong anyway, thats a different political issue. The point is, if a police man was to see you playing a computer game like CS he would say hi rather than shut the place down, nobody gives a shit about the dumb law. Which leads to the question, is it possible for me to download something that will allow me to do one player CS against lets say, the computer? I wanna get some practice in so I can kick their asses in Greece in the net cafe's when I go in the Winter ![]() Quote:
