WinXP Pro woes with ASPI :(
Hello again everybody....
How do I properly install ASPI on my WinXP Pro box so that CDR-WIN will not give me an error about using an unsupported device and usinga default driver instead so that some or all features may work improperly? I have tried burining with Nero and Roxio and they both work, but I'd like to know how to get CDR-WIN to wrk properly as I need that program for backing up. I have version 4.0A of CDR-WIN. I have an 8100i HP CD-RW drive which, according to HP, is supported in WinXP. I downloaded the ASPI drivers ver. 4.71 Alpha 1 and the installation procedure seemed to not work for some portions so opened up the .BAT file in notepad and manulaly installed the files it installs, and the registry has all the appropriate entries. Simply put: HOW DO I GET ASPI IN XP!!?!?! (sorry for the shouting, I'm at about my witsend with WinXP) "Welcome to the Island of people who know too much."..."Did you really think balloons would stop him?!" See what I'm listening too. |

Alright...I think IE wont let me download DLLs cuz this link doesnt work either, but I'll just get it from the Adaptec ASPI pack to see if that works and I'll try your suggestion griff, thanks for the help.

God $^&*%^&$.... I copied it to \system32\drivers and I also pasted a copy into the directory and I got the error that ASPI was not found on the computer at all.
I removed the DLL from the directory and now I get the same error, being this: code: What could be wrong? By the way, the error I got when I pasted the DLL (as a .dll not a .dl_) to the same directory as CDRWIN was this: code: "Welcome to the Island of people who know too much."..."Did you really think balloons would stop him?!" Umm...I just tried uninstalling all my burning apps to see if that may help and I found that Adaptec installs Windows 95/WIndows NT ASPI drivers (i believe it's version 4.60) and the Roxio install also said that my drive was unsupported because it questioned me about installing DirectCD....

W00T!!
![]() I've discovered that the issues werent with ASPI or my burner, but with my ATAPI DVD-R drive! ![]() Now it's all a matter of either ignoring that drive altogether and getting a better one later, or finding an updated ATAPI driver. ![]() Thanks everybody for your help!!! ![]() ![]() /me hugs all that tried to help, or wanted to do so... to anyone else who is going to read this.... please don't install the adaptec aspi drivers....
last time i tried installing them i had to reformat my hard disk 31337-2k2: do you have any virtual cd-rom programs running? they can screw with your aspi drivers as well (therefore not reading your dvd drive correctly) phantom CD? daemon tools? |

I know, those programs really screw with ASPI. I've not had any problems whatsoever with the Adaptec ASPI drivers. Actually, I may have not mentioned this, but my DVD drive did and still does work, but I think right now it only functions as a CD-ROM drive and I dont think it likes reading DVDs. The problem with CDRWIN was that CDRWIN was set to make images with the DVD drive, so since the ATAPI drivers must have been dated (read: old), it was generating the error. I'm gonna go off to find the latest ATAPI drivers for my DVD drive now. Thanks winamprocker for teh help.
