Logon Screen Bypassed - Help Please

I recently re-installed WindowsME on my machine, and now when my computer starts up it completely bypasses the logon dialogue box. This wouldn't be a problem, except that when I'm not logged on as a specific user the option to save my password when I dial the internet is greyed out, and it's a pain to always have to type in my pw when i connect to the net.

Workarounds I have tried: a) removing, re-adding, and re-configuring Client for Microsoft Networks in the network settings control panel. b) deleting all the .pwl passwords that were previously on my computer. c) setting up a specific User in Settings --> Control Panel --> Users.

Still, every time I retart my comp, it bypasses the logon screen. Internet cookies appear as "anyuser@domain.com" in the Cookies folder instead of my old logon name.

Can anyone suggest any other possible solutions I could try? Also, please do not deluge me with "Change your operating system" posts. I am aware that many people dislike ME, but I've been running it for over a year and not had a problem, so I'm not planning on upgrading or downgrading just yet.

Control Panel -> Users

I believe there is an option in there to turn on the login.

Otherwise, try opening the Networking and change the login manager.

Damn it. It's been too long since I've used WinME or Win98. I know the option is there, and I could find it if I was at your computer, but I'm not certain right now.

Thanks guys. Actually I figured it out on my own. I re-installed Windows' Virtual Private Networking and now everything works fine. Go figure...

The login features on 9x were never ever ever meant to be a security measure. They were just a usability feature so everyone can have their own wallpapers and themes etc. Thinking of them as a security measure is wrong.

Security isn't really the issue. I just wanted to be able to access the features that I couldn't (ie. the "save Password" and "Connect Automatically" features in Dial-up Networking) when logged on as "anyuser" or "default."

Ya, you have to have the "Client for server" protocol installed from Network Neighborhood in order to have that screen.

Actually I posted prematurely. Re-installing VPN didn't work. It turns out I had to delete a registry entry "hkey_blah blah blah_auto login=00" and then re-configure my network settings in order to fix my problem. "Client for Microsoft Networks" was already installed, but somehow that registry entry got changed or messed up smehow.
