The winamp .ico /icon file!

Well, i was thinking, the current winamp icon is direct ugly, where do i find the original .ico file that's displayed on mp3's ?

Cause i was thinking of making a new one / editing the one with only a lightning! and making it blue, i mean, ice blue is way more comfortable too look at while trying too find one file among some others, i mean, that sharp yellow color really sucks!

not sure what you mean by the original mp3 icon, but the wa2 at http://classic.winamp.com contains several different icons in the prefs for your viewing pleasure.

You can copy and paste the Winamp icon into something as simple as MSPaint, and edit it however you like. When you save it, name it as *.ico, and it will save it as an icon file, and you can use it then.

A very close Japanese friend I knew a while ago once said to me "Watashi no koto wo oboeta, onegai shimasu...Yakusoku?"

I forgot his name though...

Use Microangelo's 'Explorer' program and open the following:

for Winamp2 icons:
C:\Program Files\Winamp\winamp.exe

for Winamp3 icons:
C:\Program Files\Winamp3\studio.exe

Oh, hell. You people are all crazy. There's no need to go hacking around with a resource editor.

If you want to change the MP3 icon to the one from Winamp 2, then first, make sure you still have Winamp 2 installed. (actually, you just need to hold onto a copy of the actual .exe) It's small enough that you're not going to miss the space.

Now, open Windows Explorer.
Click "Tools->Folder Options" on the nenubar.

Now, a new Window will appear. Click the "File Types" tab.

You'll then see a list of "Registered file types". Now, scroll down until you see MP3 on the list. Highlight it (single left click).

Under the list, the "Details for MP3 extension" will appear. Click the "Advanced" button.

A new Window will appear. Click the "Change Icon" button.

One last Window will appear. Click the "Browse" button.

Ok, so there's one more Window. The File Selection window. Browse until you find the Winamp 2 executable. Most likely it's "C:\program files\Winamp\winamp.exe". Select the file and click the "open" button in the file selector.

Now, select the icon you want. Click "ok". Click "ok". Click "close".

Done.

It's not as complicated as it sounds. Just try it. It's really pretty simple.

Edit: Maybe I misunderstood. If you want the actual icon, it's embedded in the exe. You can get the icon by using a resource hacker, or by just doing a screen shot in Windows Explorer while some MP3s are being displayed and then cropping the resulting image in an image editing program. You'll need a special program to save as a .ico file, though.

For the freedom to express myself in my own way without fear of being censored or banned.
