Capturing Incoming Sound

I was recently at a flash site with one of the best 5 second music loops that I've ever heard. I want to capture that sound and just listen to it whenever I want... but I'm not sure how.

I tried a few of the plugins with winamp 2 but the capture needs to be in the playlist for it to work. Does anyone know how I would go about grabbing the track and exporting it to a wav/mp3/etc on my hard drive?

(btw, for what its worth its inside the flash file)

you could try purchasing a macromedia product to get the tracks, and i do not know which one would best suit you. alternatively, you could hold a microphone up to your speakers and record the sound. but before you do anything, make sure the loops aren't copyrighted.

[edit] totalrecorder that rm' is mentioning is at http://www.highcriteria.com/ [/edit]

There is a product out there called TotalRecorder which will record anything and everything that your soundcard outputs. That should fit the bill nicely.

[edit: did your homework for you, and here is the link to the Total Recorder, and a really great explanation on what it can do]

If you're one of those who can't stand paying for anything,
there's also Messer Recorder, which is free.
I don't know anything about it though,
I've been using Total Recorder for a couple of years.

Well, the program to rip the sound worked great. But now I have to find myself some sort of professional program to get the ends to match up. Sound recorder only goes so far.

There is a little, static.. less than a millisecond probably of noise in between. Ah well ^^

That's exactly what I would have suggested. TotalRecorder is an EXTREMELY useful app, letting you rip/transcode from any source/filetype (even proprietary ones) to WAV, which can then be turned into an MP3/OGG/whatever the hell you want...the SDMI can kiss my ass.

I'd recommend trying Sonic Foundry's Sound Forge, or maybe CoolEdit Pro for this (both will allow you to edit down to very small fractions of a second)...the only problem is that they both cost several hundred dollars retail (last time I checked), though if you know where to look, you can find "free" versions online.

you could use Winamp. just get a a gay (male/male) mini stero chord,
plug one end in headfone jack and other in line-in, get a line-in
plugin and diskwriter as output.

What that method DOES work, it is EXTREMELY lossy (i.e. end sound quality will suck), because the sound first get converted from a digital input from the flash thingy to an analog signal output from the soundcard, which is then sent back into the soundcard as analog input, and is reconverted back to a digital format and stored on the HDD. All these conversions (along with the fact that there's going to be signal loss at various points along the way) degrade the sound quality and will result in a poor sounding end-product. The nice thing about TotalRecorder is that it intercepts the raw PCM data before the sound card converts it to analog output, resulting in an end-product that sounds quite close to the original, if not identical to it.

Oh, what I forgot to mention is the rar I posted is the track put side by side, so in the middle you can hear the little static.

Total Recorder is a great app. I'm glad I have it now, never know where its going to come in handy. Thanks for it ^^

Now download the Lame 3.92 DLL mp3 encoder.
Install it directly into the TR folder.
This'll give you allot wider range for encoding.
Have fun!
