The Matrix - What is on the minidisc???

I bought this DVD when the film came out, and every time I watch it, one thing comes to mind.

At the start when he goes the door, what is he Neo selling on a Minidisc type disc that could be worth $2000??????

Some sort of mischevous hacking proggy? Porn? a WinDVD serial? The new Tori Amos album? All of the above?

You decide....

Like my photography? Buy some here....

Actually .. a lot of "good programms" are worth a lot of money. There could have been a copy of Photoshop & FlashMX,... on there..

The most expensive prog I know of (apart from buying a prog with a lot of licences) would have to be NA's "Sniffer Pro".. I think it cost's like 20.000$

Actually, that question always bugged me too when I see the movie.

The book Neo hides all his MDs in is called Simulation and Simulacra. However, I cant quite seem to be arsed enough to open up photoshop and do all that to get the names of the stuff that's in his book.

Perhaps baaf is right in his response.

The more that I think about it, the more I'm convinced that it's the Bible. Of course, there is no way to confirm my suspicions.

According to Morpheus, the present within the Matrix is around 1999, isn't it?

The movie is set in 2199, but where Neo is in that instant is the Matrix, where it's supposedly 1999, meaning 2 grand is a bit of green--too much for it to be the bible, I find. You're probably right, 'rm, but I think it was something fairly trivial, mainly because the guy who bought it didn't act like the directors perspective of a hacker.
When I first saw it, I figured it was a program to hack into some system or another, so the buyer could do something from destroy a computerized security system to delete his name from various government lists, to disappear.

it's probably a hacking program or access codes to a high level mainframe. maybe it's something that will allow troy to clear his criminal record?

whatever it is, neo is a master hacker and he's not selling cracked copies of photoshop or britney pr0n, that's for sure.

im in full agreement of with the cow man and tri gear. it is deffinately a hacker program. Mr. Anderson needs to make money for his expensive equpment and the group who he sold the disc too obviously does not have the skills to hack. Neo made them a hacking program to crack something. Perhaps a bank to secure funds for their lifestyle.

Brtiney Nudes, Bibles, Winamp 5, Or LOTR Trilogy is not worth 2,000 dollars. A good cracking program is.

Avid cinemas good program is worth 20,000 or so. Most industrial software retails for more than 1,000 dollars a box.

How do we know this is not an alternate reality, where religion is underground? Persecution is a big theme in The Matrix. It makes so much symbolic sense for it to be the Bible. Then again, this movie isn't very symbolic...

Did you not read my earlier post?! Read the reviews, or even the book and you will see that some portions of the book parallel the Matrix.

I did. That's why I said it made so much symbolic sense.

I think the point of the movie is that because they do lie, you must look beyond the facts. I don't believe that it's ever specified where Neo lives (although I can be wrong on this), but it's known that Trinity cracked the IRS database a long time ago. That doesn't really mean anything, though, because the hacker world is supposedly international (all the headlines that Neo's program is scanning through in the beginning of the narrative).

I think its digital psychedelic drugs. I think so because right after it the go to some sort of weird party.

and a simple question added to this.
Why doesn't the minidisk take over the 3,5" disk???
I expected that that would be only a mater of time before that would happen, but it seems it takes longer then i thouht.

It's clearly Living Dead girl by Rob Zombie that they then start to play in that club in the next scene. I always thought it was a program that he was writing to detect the Matrix. He knew he was onto something and wanted to let others know - for a price. Maybe just some of the evidence he had collected so far. Or it might have been illegal Natzi hardcore music.

The minidisc was actually designed originally as a computer storage device - they can hold about 140MB, which, at the time was bigger than most hard drives. The only problem was that the drives alone cost thousands, and because of this the idea never took off. Recently though, sony have started to add minidisc drives to their laptops, so we could be in for a revival.
