What are your feelings on...

I'm trying to get an idea of what the mass consensus might be like on this:

What are your feelings on pictures or designs that cross-over from the EQ into the PL. What I mean is, a picture that gets broken up if winamp isn't in the 'standard' formation. See attachment to see what I mean.

Do you think it's crappy to do that, because you seldom/never have your EQ and PL lined up? Or is that how you usually have winamp, so for you, it's ok?

you could have kept this in the original thread, but i understand why you choose to make a new topic.

Personally I would never do that. it really isn't looking good. And how often do you have the EQ and the PL open, and how often are they actually lined-up if the pl ain't streched in the first place.

I'd keep them seperate, possibly for the reason that the red and blue don't go together, but the fact that that picture split in half and stretched probably won't look too good.

I don't like being forced to have all windows open and in standard layout. But sometimes you need the extra space of other windows. I'd say: if the skin needs it go ahead, if it's only a "cool touch" don't do it.

all viable reasons.....

as to why not to do it.

personally if i am intending to use a skin that is set up in this way
not just the one you got going on now but any for that matter thats exactly how ill use it.

eq bars just suck on pics well unless it was all of one of them city skylines and you made the windows in the pic line up with the way the eq BAR will look

pl stretching???? its not like its a 2 wide list no matter how big ya stretch it.

it looks nice but it depends what you want to do with it...do you want people to be able to use it all of the time or do u want someone to say "hey that looks great"??if u cant find a way that looks better, then y not keep it?if someone is so distracted because they need to stretch...then they dont use it(but they'll never know unless they d/l it!!! )

I'd go ahead and do it. Really depends who you're skinning for. If you're skinning for yourself, do it. If you want a huge audience, maybe consider thinking of something else. I'd do it. Then again, I always have EQ and PL open and PL stretched only in the vertical direction, so what do I know?

When I listen to Star Wars soundtrack, I have to stretch the playlist horizontally if I want to view the titles, then my layout is:

EQ | MAIN
PLAYLIST

The reason I put it in a new thread is because if I put it in the SHAG thread, one or two people would have answered. Here, about ten have, so I have a bit of a general idea.

Thanks for your answers, people. It seems a lot of you do like to stretch the PL. I too someimes stretch it to make the titles readable or keep the extra bit at the bottom (why hasn't that got a name in skinning lingo yet?) visible. So I guess there's little point in putting in a picture that's going to be broken on half the winamps that are using it.

I call it pl-vis (there's vis, ws-vis, eq-vis and pl-vis ). Well, the eq-vis is not the same as the others, but that's how I call it, ok?

Oh yeah, I forgot that you can make the vis go there. I only learnt that recently.

I pretty much always use winamp in the standard configuration, but I guess most people are a bit more adventurous then I am

e-raser: the eq vis is always visable in the EQ unless it's cropped out, it's the part just above the sliders, at the bottom of the EQmain.bmp, the Pl vis is in the large stretched part of the PL, and will become active when you disable the main window, by hitting alt-W if I remember correctly

It's all explained in the Skinner's Atlas readme.txt, IIRC (man, I hate these acronyms or whatever you call them).
