How do you use Milkdrop in Winamp 3?
I just downloaded Winamp 3 and I realy like it. I do have one problem though. How do you get milkdrop to work in it? There is no plug in menu in the preferences to choose from. I already have it installed in the {winamp3/plugins/milkdrop} dirtectory. The description of how to use MD only works in Winamp 2. E-Mail Me Here

Maybe Rova should sticky a post like "How to get Milkdrop to work in Winamp 3"
http://www.geisswerks.com/vismgr_10.zip Download that it is a Plugin Manager for Winamp 3 made by Ryan Geiss. |

OK, I've seen this a million times. I got the visualization manager installed etc, but how the hell do I actually *install* the visualizations? All of the installers will only work if you have Winamp 2 installed, so I can't get them to install. I've got the dll's directly from his site by guessing their names (i.e. http://www.geisswerks.com/vis_monkey.dll), but that only gives me the dll...not all the other stuff (in Monkey's case, 5 jpgs).
Am I missing something here? |

I'm think you actually need Winamp2 installed for the plugins to work, because it looks in the Winamp2 plugins directory..

That's actually untrue. The Plugin Manager lets you browse folders for plugins.
The installer just needs to _think_ that winamp 2 is installed. rename an empty text file to winamp.exe, and try installing again. Worked for me. |

Put it in C:\Program Files\Winamp

Same here. I installed 'SMOKE' into my winamp3 dir (which isn't c:\program files) after putting the fake winamp.exe in it and it worked the same way as described with the c:\program files\winamp method, and also put the vismanager files in their respective dir in the winamp3 folder
the 'SMOKE' dll installed fine in the winamp3/plugins dir..but nothing shows up in the vismanager.. i then created a c:\program files\winamp\fake winamp.exe and tried installing 'SMOKE' there. it installed, but still nothing in vismanager.. ????????? I'm going to try to reinstall winamp3 in c:\program files\winamp and make another fake winamp.exe just to see if it works that way..or maybe the vismanager stuff has to be in c:\program files\winamp along with the plugin? Any ideas? |

Vismanager searches for the location of winamp2's files in the registry, if you have not installed winamp2 you will not have the correct registry value and vismanager cannot find til plugins folder.
Solution: Add the following registry value: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Winamp\UninstallString REG_SZ (string) C:\Program Files\Winamp\uninstal.exe Worked for me. |

If you do try it through a projector, can you take some pictures and post links to them here? I'd like to see them....
