If someone is claiming they did the work themselves, or has used someone elses work without permission then they are a ripper.
Finding an avatar on google and using that is as much ripping as it is when someone copies a portion or an entire winamp skin...The level of acceptance is however different. Its a fine line as to whats ok, and whats just plain wrong. [edited so it made sense...] |

I rip game sprites all the time. I claim I ripped them, but I will NEVER say I made them. That's where the copyright thing comes in play. Although in some rare cases I may say an image is mine, but I just animated it and made it from multiple images in a game...Take my biggest triumph: Ripping the Fusion Dragon and animating him.
![]() [edit]Note: That is a cropped screenshot. It is not a rip. What game is that anyway?[/edit] |

Example:
My avatar, it has to be said, isn't entirely original. Some people may even find it instantly recognizable. Not the point though. I have spent enough money over the years supporting Liverpool, and buying stuff with the Liver Bird on, that I believe I am entirely entitled to use it here. Besides, I resized it, and I made the background transparent, so it's mine. Ha. There's no need to tell me when I'm right; I operate on that principle exclusively and with absolute certainty Last edited by dylman; 13th October 2002 at 22:45. |

What are you using to rip anyway? I'd reccomend VGBA. It can do just about anything, from decompiling to sound ripping.

theres a list on dude 883's site
and /me found out that if you take a screenhot with psp of a vba game its a lot sharper and unblured that if you take one with the programs own screenshot tool (at least in .png) |
