Winamp 1.73

Okay, here's a question...
I just decided to try 1.73, since a friend has it still.
I love it. Simple. It plays my music.
But what is this about having to buy the 1.x in 14 days? For $25.? lol
Please tell me that's expired since! lol

Prior to version 2.50, Winamp was shareware; therefore, it explains why you get a reminder message.
Honestly though, there is absolutely no reason imho to still use such an old version as you do : Winamp has incredibly evolved in all fields; plus, it's now absolutely free. Why use an older outdated product when you can have a much better for free ?

Because I have tried everything from 2.6something or other on up, and hated them all.. they have been buggy, bulky, done way more then I need them to, or just I just don't like them.
This is simple and to the point. It plays music. That's al, it needs to do.
So... do you still have to pay for 1.x versions?

If I can't find [removed by Twilightseer : no mention of cracks allowed]for it, then I'll try an older one..lol.
I just don't like all the clutter and stuff that come swith it in the last year or so's versions.. :-(
But I don't think I'll go back so far as that! Eek!

If I remember right, old versions don't force you to pay. They don't nag, they don't stop running....

So you should be ok with that

Just go to Winamp Heaven. You'll find EVERYTHING you need there.

And the blue is overkill at this point.

And why was I not informed of this when I was running all versions from 2.6 to 3.0??? How dare you say that Winamp 2.x is "buggy, bulky, and full of awesome features"?? grrr!! Go get Winamp3 Version 3.0 and quit whining.

lol, you guys are mean! And pushy!
I'm one of those people that have a program for everything.. but won't touch the ones that do it all.
If you don't need all that other stuff, why have it?
And 3.0 did nothing but freeze my machine.. I gave it two days before removing it.

Haha, I'm not really mean, I just hate to see any version of Winamp being bashed. It really does rock your mind.

Oh yeah, you might try just installing Winamp 2.6+ Lite version, that is, just the base player without any plugins.

AjStone- I know you're not really being mean..lol
And believe me, I'd rather have any version of Winamp over MM or WMP. After I tried Winamp, there was never any reason to try any others. Think of my complaining as in comparison to Winamp and only Winamp.. it's still way better then the other stuff out there. Whiops the llamas ass, right? ;-)
I only wish there was a way to uninstall WMP from my comp.. :-((

I'll check out that one as well.. at worst I'll end up with a folder wwith files for all the standard releases..lol.

Eh, just let Winamp Installer overwrite the file associations and let the Winamp Agent keep a lock on 'em so nothing can steal the associations.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ummm... isn't it the "Talking Goat" instead of the Singing Goat?
I do have it maintain file associations, always!
Except I'm just trying to get used to XP, and hating it in record time..lol.
And "talking goat"? You lost me there... It's "singing goat" because I have two websites, one for the family business, which is goats, and the other for P2P program discussion and stuff....
Ok man. If you even start to bitch about XP, the gloves come off. I am deadly serious. You can piss on Winamp3 because it is new software and isn't completely perfect (but almost) however, not a single word about Windows XP (except about that damn Product Activation)
Mark my words. XP is Supreme.
PLEASE DONT TYPE EVERY SINGLE POST IN A COLOUR OTHER THAN BLACK AND NOT WITH TEXT FORMATTING EITHER, UNLESS IT IS RELEVANT TO THE POST!
Just a friendly reminder. (actually, I wasnt yelling, I had caps lock on and I'm too lazy to retype it.)
Stupid question, but what product activation?
I had ME for a year previous to XP, and I nver had the problems I have now. Yeah, sure it crashed for unknown reasons.. but my mp3's actually played without hanging for minutes at a time! (Yup, playing music is my biggest prob with XP!)
You should really try out v1.82 or 1.92SP if you're going to run a 1.xx version.... they represent the least buggy versions...
I really don't understand the point in using a keygen on old Winamps. It works fine anyway, and it never nags you. You need to go to the about screen and look for the registration page before you are reminded. Someone made a keygen for colourificator (which also never nags). I was well chuffed I won't post it, cos for all I know it could be malicious, but search for 'Colourificator keygen' and you'll see.
You'll get tons of old WA versions at http://www.winampheaven.da***** btw
I didn't mean that, 'rocker.
This user seems intent on running a 1.xx version - so I pointed out the best two 1.xx versions to use.
Obviously I agree that the latest version of 2.xx should be used. The thing is, singing_goat that 1.73 doesn't even support MMX (and I doubt directsound either, though I'd have to check). And there's absolutely no reason why at the very minimum 1.82 shouldn't be used - as it's basically just bug fixes and things. You should also be aware that some pretty horrendous bugs exist in some previous versions, that can destroy your mp3s (there was one version which truncated mp3s that were bigger than a certain filesize)...
