Installing Linux Mandrake

I am thinking of installing Linux Mandrake,I'm downloading
the ISO files right now!
But I want to make sure I've got it right.
There are 3 ISO files I need to download right?
And then I burn them to 3 cd's and I am ready to install?

actually, you only need the first iso, but the other two contain some useful stuff. after you download the iso(s) burn each one to a cd. they should fill up the entire cd. then put the first cd in your drive and restart your computer. the installation should start when windows normally loads.

Just one more question!
Which Linux is the most userfriendly and best choice for
a newbie to Linux?

mandrake is often cited as the most easy-to-use distro, so i would recommend you continue with the installation/download. however, linux does not support as much hardware as windows simply because it is not as widespread as windows and money-minded hardware maufacturers would not want to spend time creating drivers that only a minority of home users could use. you may be able to find some unofficial linux drivers for some hardware, and the mandrake site has a database of supported hardware.

Lycoris is dead easy to use (for a Linux distro, at least), but since it doesn't ship with many libraries, a great deal of Linux software isn't compatible with it, straight out of the box.

Lycoris is ok, as long as you download all the cd's. I've had it installed on my box for a month now, and once i'd sorted out some issues with my gfx card it worked great. The first cd is all you need to get it installed, but the second cd has all the development tools...which you'll probably need at some stage.

Mandrake 9 kicks ass. I spent a few hours using it tonight on a friends pc tonight, just making a backup of all my windows shtuff right now so i can install it on mine.

Yes it does. Just installed it today, no that different from 8.2 though.

mandrake 9 is good for people unused to linux as it is (apparently) possible to control the whole thing without the aid of the command line.
