The other side of the coin

Practically every one here loathes the RIAA... but surely there are some good labels out there. Maybe RIAA-member labels, maybe independants (or aligned with some association, other then the RIAA).

Me? I like Compost Records the best. Definitely THE source for Bossa Nova. I also like Nettwerk a lot. Decca is also a classic... a huge assortment of very refined music is signed under them. Varese Sarabande... has the best soundtracks, other than maybe Sony/Columbia. I'm also a big fan of EMI Classic and EMI Bluenote.

As my main interest is Folk music almost everything I buy is independently produced.

Nothing to do with the RIAA this, but strange nonetheless. Two of the best vinyl lables for Folk were 'Leader' and 'Trailer', both created by the great Bill Leader. They were bought up when he closed down and nothing from the back catalogue has been released since, they've just been sat on. There are many fine musicians who could have enjoyed a renaissance in the CD market if their early stuff was available. No one understands the reasoning behind it, stubbornness and ill feeling abound.

White label - the best house music is usually to be found on whites.

Of the independant labels, I like some of the artists signed to Wall Of Sound, notably Royksopp.

nothing is a part of interscope is a part of UMG. as far as i can tell they're not a part of the RIAA.

pretty good label, too.

if you want your site to look professional, i'd leave the 'min' off the end

I don't care for the label, i care for the music. And i am not a riaa-hater, i spent an obscene amount of money on REAL music last week.

yes, somebody can point out that it has all been ripped and may well find it's way to some obscure server somewhere.
