ooooooo. this is some sexy shit. bugs everywhere, but man, this is going to be a great browser when done. I like the "Author Mode" button/feature just to the left of the address bar.

[edit]!!!!! OMG!!!!! that is soooo cool! When using tabbed browsing, pop-up windows show up in the tabs as smaller/skinnier tabs! What an awsome feature! Why didn't anyone else think of that?! W00T!!!! W00T!!!! FUCKIN W00T!!!!!!!

[edit]hmmmm... it doesn't seem to do it to all pop-up windows. guess you can't identify them all very easily. cool feature none the less

that's all well and good, but it won't upgrade directly for me and i really don't feel like paying to upgrade for software that i basically already have.
for those who have opera 6 but got it outside of a designated time period, you have to pay to upgrade which is something that i don't really appreciate.

I am loving it. Seems to render all the pages correctly. It didn't with 6, as far as I can remember. Very fast.

Why even bother with Opera when even Netscape is dead and free?

It is not the best technology that succeeds in the market place otherwise AOL would be dead and Beta format VCR would have been alive today.

a lot of the time, very true. The winning brand may not be as good as the loosing brand, but in the end, the winning brand is a better product then it used to be because of the competition. It has to up the quality to keep up with the competitive (better) technology otherwise it would most likely fail. And that is just one benefit of competition.

I'm not sure if I explained that good.

I dont think I will agree with you. In our market based system, one can sell iceboxes to Eskimos. Even the best products spend a lot more resources on advertising and sometimes monopolistic practices than on improving the quality of their products.

advertising is usually the ultimate reason why one product wins over another, but it always comes back to the little guy's advancements pushing the big dogs to do better. Look at any competitive companies or products and you'll see what I'm talking about. Look at the various operating systems out there. Look at the media players that run on them (winamp, sonique, windows media player, realONE). This is a well known factor of the market.

Competition is a good thing. That's why you saw so many people on these board who understood what I am talking about getting very upset when it was stated a long time ago that Sonique's coders had been fired and the progress of Sonique 2 had halted.

Even companies in that state of mind have to and do constantly improve their products. If they didn't the competion WOULD eventually take them over as more and more people find out that there are much better options out there. A lot of companies wouldn't bother to improve their products if it wasn't for the competition.

I did not dispute that competition is a good thing as long it exists. The problem comes when one company becomes so powerful that it controls the market completely. Customer has no choice left other than to learn to live without the product to which he has become addicted.
Take the case of Cable company or utilities since there is only one physical channel in most cases. Sometimes even when there are more than one company in an industry they decide to make a pact to not compete with each other and are happy with sharing the market among themselves without trying to beat each other is price or service.
Once in a while a new technology comes along and then and only then the entrenched monopolies get kicked out if they are not powerful to buy out the new technology itself.
Do you think Enron and Worldcom had become so powerful by fair competition alone?

e: and it still supports the cellophane... means i can still have georgian google. pardon me, but the cellophane is my own name for the georgian/armenian sylfaen font.

New Opera really rocks. And there's some real improvements, including even better CSS support.

It's not really a new beta, it is mainly out to fix the security problems that were found.

Unlike MS, Opera fixes such problems in a matter of days(instead of many, many months...)

Galeon does this too. I think Pheonix can as well, but I'm not sure. Its really a nice feature. I find tabs to be much less annoying and intrusive than windows which are able to popup fullscreen.

And Microsoft is stuck with IE 6. I see new versions of Mozilla and Opera and almost one year since IE 6. It's time to see new stuff out of Redmond too, don't you think? Or are they waiting for WinXP 2?

Anyway, this seems to be an awsome browser.
