why did you start using the WA forums? how did u find out?

What got you interested enough in Winamp that you decided to be a member of this community? How did you find out that they had forums?

I remember it wasn't that long ago that I fist started looking into them. I used to think message boards were uncool and boring. I started out as CMontyNYC but i stopped using that name long ago. Then after I got really intrested in classic rock, I named myself AeroLed286 and was usually in the WA2 techsupp forums. One day disaster struck. Something really crazy happened, and I thought I'd never return to the forums.

Obviously I did return. And I've stayed here constantly although there have been some times which I feel like I don't want to say much except insult people and play stupid post pumping games. Now is one of those times.

So what about you?

I started using Winamp about three years ago when some l33t friends of mine introduced me to it. I downloaded it for the first time, installed it, and ran it. I was like, "Whoa..." A couple months after that, I started lurking on the boards. I got really interested in them, so I registered. Been here through the thick and thin ever since.

i first read about WA in the uber l337, now defunct, PCXL mag.
i started out using musicmatch, but it was too slow for just a mp3
player so decided to give WA a try. i liked it and started to exploring
the site and came across NSDN. from there i read some stuff on WA3 (this
was in the alpha 2 days i believe) and wanted to d/l it but i couldnt
find a link so i joined and asked.

I originally joined the forums as "sharksfan2000" back in June of 2000, I eventually lost my password so I reregistered as Bizznatch, and been here since.I only had 30 or so posts over a 4 month span as sharksfan2000, i dont remember any of the threads or any of my posts but most of the members that have been around since then I recognized.

To be honest I started using Winamp years ago, and knew about the forums. but the reason I sign up is when wa3 came out,and I was having alot a problems with it.
Then I notice alot of winamp users were posting alot about their computer problems, and alot of them werent getting the right help, since I am a computer tech I decided to help out little.

i got bored between lectures, and was looking for a new version of winamp. i clicked on 'community'.

the rest is history.

not interesting history, like wars and stuff, or even like lives of the rich and famous. but history nonetheless. because it happened in the past and stuff.

I joined because I was interested in the skinning system going with winamp3. I think Alpha 4ever or whatever it is was the first one I ran. I KNOW I used tho alpha 5ux.

In a drunken stupor after work I stumbled into a cybercafe a couple of months ago...don't remember much after that, just waking up and getting an email saying I was registered.

I use to lurk around the forums for awhile before I actually started posting anything, mostly to check out the latest skins Raydream was working on and whatnot (hey, we were together by then, I'm not a stalker, lol) and then one day, we decided I might as well post stuff too.

I was coming onto te site to get the new version, when I thought I would spend some time in the forums. I chose Bilbo Baggins as my username, and the rest as they say is history. It was back in those misty days of old that a young Bill Thompson was in control of the forums, and he sent me a very nice email forcing me to be a moderator else face the consequences. Bill is god.

I was first introduced to Winamp in summer of 2000 by my friend Slopey. He convinced me to download the program, and I immediately fell in love with the one feature that every other media player I had used (i.e. WiMP) lacked: the playlist.

I discovered skinning, then did that for a while. Anyway, I began posting here in October of that year under the unregistered "flatmatt" until I discovered that the forums registration was different from the skins/plugins registration in early November. I initially suggested a bunch of things in the Wishlist, then moved on to other stuff, starting such complaint threads as "Forum Rules" and "Fuck Flash!" So yeah. That's my story.

Hehe, I'm glad my terse reply didn't put you off sticking around....

...as for me; I've got absolutely no idea how I came here first now. I think it was something to do with MediaUK forums, but I can't really remember. And my early posts don't give much of a clue, either.

I'd been lurking around for a few months before i joined, just browsing the wa2 skinning forum. I never planned on joining as i figured i wouldnt be of much use helping out others, but because i was having a prob with a skin i'd submitted, i had to join to have one of the reviewers check it.

I decided to stick around, spent the first month of my forum life in wa2 skins and skins & plugins, then started browsing GD one day when i was bored, developed my own brand of amateurish tech support....and the rest is pretty self explanatory.

Well...my first post was a complaint about some of you assholes flaming the Sonique message boards That's the only reason I became a member at that point. I forgot about it for about a year, then when I got a computer that Winamp wouldn't crash on boot, I came back. Now I'm a major dude and only 99.8% of the people here hate my guts!

Member #131! There are only a handful of consistent posters who've registered before me, including Some1, CraigF, Tom, and the team Nullsoft members (if I left anyone out, my apologies, I was rushing).

I came in for some Shoutcast Techsupport (I think), stayed to offer some other Shoutcasters/Winamp users a hand figuring things out, then moved on to NSIS techsupport, then to my current home, Winamp3.

I used to visit some other forums, napigator for one, anyone remember when they tried to "steal" our "mascot": the Winamp lightening logo! Whadda bunch of maroons! I already considered myself a Winamp forums member at the time, but after that, my membership was clinched. I haven't been to a forum since that gives me the same great experience that Winamp's does.

I was away for a while.

Don't know why I joined. It wasnt for the off-beat humour, the stretched-ass site links, the n00bie flaming, the in-jokes, the tech support, the good guys, the bad guys, the ugly guys, the wasting of time, it wasn't for the spam, the post-pumping, the stupidity, the intelligence, the good threads, the bad threads, the good threads that went bad, the moments of comic genius, the moments of genuine brilliance of intelligent thought, the moments of statuesque stupidity, or the llama.

Those were all consequences.

#2 is 'fuckface' who only posted once.
2 major idiots joined before the first major dude.
The first major dude - Brennan (Underwood (or whatever), I presume) - last posted in April of 2000
#666 only posted twice
#777 only posted once
#31174 has posted 759 times (at the moment this was posted)
#31337 really isn't.

However, #1337 is apparently an active user, even though he has only 38 posts. His last post was five days ago.

I WAS TRICKED! And now you're all stuck with me.

Honestly, I can't remember what first got me started. I got hooked on the Skinlove forum, though, then hung out at the Bitchlist for a while, and then saw all the fun over here in GD, and stuck around.

Lucky you
