anybody remember that guy who ripped skinme's skin (i think it was him), and came in adamant that it was all his own work, in spite of all of the evidence...

What gave the game away to me, apart from the name change, was the lame lame lame website that he had listed in his profile, looked like something done in MSpaint , and nothing at all like the stuff you put out.

http://www.giacomomargarito.too.it/

Course, I didn't like to say at the time, just in case it WAS your skin after all

/side note, I've just been developing a little system for my new WA3 skin, I always put a credits/readme type window into my skins, contact details and so on, I've now created a maki file that checks for the presecence of these windows, plus one or two other copyright notices that I've dotted around in various parts of the skin, if it finds them, groovy it works fine, if some ripper decides to remove them and submit them as his own, the script will crash and fuck up the installation, they can't reverse enginner the script file once it's hard coded, if they remove the script file, the rest of the skin will fail also.

so they can rip me if they like, my name will be all over the skin anyhow, or they can remove my bit's and submit a broken skin, I win either way

That guy has ripped other skins recently, I think.

I thought so too, as I remembered his name in a recent stir at the 1001 messageboards. But I think all it was was that he'd submitted a skinner.exe. Though I could be wrong.

Jellby, thanks for the above advice. The program is called "Music Search" not "Music Match" - my mistake. It no longer loads on startup, which is why I was wondering whether it would still be active (though it could be working behind-the-scenes - but then why not from the start?). Things are turning ugly. AVG anti-virus can't find it, neither can The Cleaner. It's nowhere to be found in Task Manager, yet my C drive is suffering an epidemic of bad sectors - and makes a dodgy crunchy sound everytime it hits one. This started happening before I got this Trojan, but the problem has escalated in recent days. All because of a trip (an unnecessary and fruitless one as it turned out, incidentally) to asta la vista land
My F drive seems fine, and it's the one with windows on it; so I guess a reformat of my C drive is going to have to happen.

ok...now I remember what I had to do
first go here and find your virus http://www.mcafee.com/anti-virus/default.asp
figure out what the files are that are causing it, then run a search for them to find the directory
then navigate to that directory in a dos prompt and delete the files from there
that should work without reformatting
I think

Thanks Foomonkey. None of the viruses that came up in a search for "music" seemed to be the one I have. But the passive part of AVG identified a file called bfv34.exe in Documents&settings/blabla/blabla/temp - When I searched for that file, it wasn't there, though in its place was bfv34.tmp and bfv35.tmp, so I deleted those.
