MTV Sucks.

I don't know if any of you people care about Politics or Political Activists or anything like that, but I read something on Winamp's main page today that blew my mind.

I read today that MTV has decided that it will not air Public Enemy's new video. They're reason: it has brief images of a political activist, Mumia(you RATM fans should know him, I do), laced in the video. This got me to thinking.

Have you watched MTV lately? You will probably see the same thing I do. Way too many crappy TV shows, and then at about 12am they actually show music videos. Now, granted, they do show some decent music videos, but those are the only 7 or so that you will see.

Have you ever wondered why you suddenly enjoy the songs that you see the videos for on MTV? It's based on the same principle that Hitler used in Nazi Germany. He knew that if you tell someone something often enough, even if it is a lie, they start to believe it. OK well maybe it's not that extreme, but MTV plays the same 10 or so videos OVER and OVER, and sooner or later everyone loves them.

This goes further.

Those artists whose videos MTV decide to push(play over and over) gain fame and fortune, while the other artists who MTV dubs non-suitable for exposure go by the wayside. MTV CONTROLS THE MUSIC INDUSTRY!!! F*CK YOU MTV!!!

Who agrees with me?

We dont get mtv here in australia (unless you have cable), but the people still buy albums.

If you want to blame MTV, you'll also have to blame every commercial radio station, every television netword that advertises albums, every store that has posters of artists up....

Now, since most people need acceptance from their peers, if something is pushed as being popular, they will buy it. Thats how advertising and marketing works.

I'd say it sucks that you can become the most successful in a business by catering to the lowest common denomenator. That's not true for Nintendo, but they're also not the most successful company. Sony is, and Sony is guilty of the same thing as M$ and MTV. Sony buys games that are entirely violence and graphics, with no gameplay whatsoever, M$ makes programs that have user-friendliness oozing out of every orifice, and MTV plays music that makes me wish I had lived in the 60's.

I blame the music companies for paying MTV and radio for playing their shit. What ever happened to DJ's playing what they wanted to rather than being forced to play certain songs? the whole thig stinks of shit.

Don't expect MTV to do anything controversial. Complaining the MTV won't show a politically charged video makes about as much sense as complaining that "Everybody Loves Raymond" hasn't done a show on bondage. Also, they probably wouldn't have shown the latest Public Enemy video anyways - it's not like Public Enemy has done anything recently. MTV is the safe haven for Britney and N'Sync fans - it's not where you are going to find cutting edge stuff. Go to your local independent record store.

I'm not sure if they do play the public enemy video, but they are still way better than mtv
1. they have their 'uncharted' lists for the up and coming people...or the people that are good but don't get the chart topping hits
2. they have a quota to fill of canadian videos (canadian law), and that helps a lot of canadian artists (see Swollen Members for instance...if u know who they are) get up into the big name

mtv is a marketing machine and carson daily or whoever does trl or yeah, all the vj's are tool of the vaicom person.

mtv's soul purpose of existance is not to entertain the masses with thought provoking music videos as it was when it was concieved (i really hope i am spelling right) but to sell as much advertising space to 12-24 year old women of middle america.

if you really like music videos i recomend the box.... oh wait. those bastards!

you could always download a whole lotta videos and hook your computer up to your tv and have winamp3 randomly play them my next short term goal.

I'm Back?

This is sort of off topic, but MTV use to produce a really good cartoon called Downtown, but I don't think there are any new ones, which is too bad

Clinton's problem was he never gave a straight answer if he could give a cute evasive one - true lawyer style. He got into that whole mess because when someone asked if he had ever used pot, he replied "I've never broken the laws of my country". Well, he happened to be in the UK when he smoked, so technically he was correct (at least in regards to pot), but he didn't answer the question. But until recently, the speed limit was a pitifully low 55 mph, so is he trying to tell us he has never driven faster than 55? Back to the point, when pressed further, he gave the lame "I never inhaled" which is obvious crap - what is the point of it if you don't inhale? And what difference does it make at that point? The watadoo answer would have been the best way out of it, especially if given up front, but that wasn't Clinton. And he never learned either, with the finger shaking "I've never had sex with that woman" (no, you just splooged on her dress after she sucked your crank...who would call that sex?) and "that depends on what your definition of 'is' is" crap.

Follow the basic associative property below

Lawyer = weasel

Clinton = lawyer

Clinton = weasel

(Holds true for any lawyer, Democrat or Republican)

I totally agree. MTV plays no good bands whatsoever, and it pisses me off. If you're gonna call it "music tv" PLAY SOME MUSIC DAMNIT. Also, they should add an all metal channel. They may already have one, so add it to my basic cable. Thanks, enjoy my comment.

MTV was cool back in 1996, when Beavis and Butthead were on and TRL wasnt.

Now its very rare that they even play a music video in full, let alone any good music.

MTV2 is decent though

There's an "MTV X" or something of the sort that plays all metal. I still watch MTV2 on occasion, simply because the music played is better, even if it's more mainstream. My best friend is still a computer or a record store, but on occasion, I will watch TV, and sometimes, that's MTV2. :P I have satellite (wee) and saw a block on MTV named "Music Videos". Said, "Wow! Straight music videos!" Turned it on, first thing I saw...some random rap video. Flipped back a few minutes later. Another rap video. Ad infinitum (or about an hour of tv watching time, flipping back to MTV during commercials to see if it wasn't a goddamn rap video).

So when they do play straight videos, it appears to be rap. Don't support political activism, but they do support sex, drugs, and violence! How kind of them, what a good example to set for the kiddies.

If you don't look, I'll force you to.

much music's commercials about MTV are fummy, they get to the point why MTV sucks so bad, on one of there commercials they have these two hillbilly type guys going "i love music videos, the best is when they only play 3 music videos and play them over and over again. oh and cutting off half of it. And then they fill up the rest of the day w/ shows showing a bunch of wining teenagers, that has nothing to do w/ music" i just mtv just plan sucks for that reason too, and thta they play mostly all cRAP

I don't even watch MTV2 much anymore. Every time I flip by, it's playing some rap or r&b video. nothing even halfway decent. The funniest thing was that they had (not sure if they still have it) something called "Control Freak" where you could vote for the next video for an hour. Rock videos always won. They never got the hint. They kept on playing rap.

Of course MTV sucks.

Of course they sold out.

Of course they use propaganda and money driven behavior modification techniques.

It's the media. MTV is no different than CNN, FOX, NBC, or any other network. Their purpose is not to entertain, it is to make money.

I gave up on television three years ago and haven't watched it since. There's no redeeming value whatsoever. It isn't art anymore; there's no passion, no feeling in it. Let it go, man.

Stop watching MTV. It isn't worth it. All you will see is rap-crap (not the good rap) and little tiny white people.

Let's face it: if the music is about the video, it isn't about the music. So, if it frustrates you, it's because you were looking for music. You won't find it on TV.

This almost reminds me of TechTV now. Although I still enjoy watching The Screen Savers and Extended Play (But don't get me started with Call For Help, I wanna strangle Chris Pirillo), I feel like they're starting to go downhill if they start to show anime on the station. I mean, Lain I'll be interested in, but what the hell are they thinking? Are they doing this because they feel like they need to entertain their loving audience a bit more, or to attract more viewers and bump up their ratings? To some, this is a dream come true, and to the rest it's a fucking nightmare.

With MTV, it's the gullable people that would waste their time enjoying stupid shit like Real World and TRL. The Osbournes was worth it somewhat, and Beavis And Butthead will always remain in my VHS collection, if not on that crap station they call MTV, but really...Unlike TechTV, the majority of your audience now are a bunch of bumbling idiots who like to walk around with a thumb up their ass. Not to mention you've restricted yourselves to Pop and Rap. Why not have a Making Of The Band: Rock Style? Oh wait, teeny-boppers wouldn't like that shit.

If I ever see an MTV executive walking down the street, I'll risk a physical assult lawsuit just to beat his face in.

A very close Japanese friend I knew a while ago once said to me "Watashi no koto wo oboeta, onegai shimasu...Yakusoku?"
