Driver(the game)
Well, I think I made a thread about this long, long ago. But here I go again. I really want to play the game Driver(GT Interactive) but it was made to be run on Win 95/98 and I have WinXP. The Program Compatibility Wizard doesnt work also because Im not really installing Driver, Im just playing it off the core files.
But every time I try to play, it gives me an error and asks me if I want to send the error to Microsoft, where surely they will look into it, but I thought I might as well ask here before troubling them. So, is there any way to run it? If not, is there any game out there runnable on XP that very closely resembles Driver? Thanks for the help.

look for patches for driver, there's probably some to make it work on newer OSs. |

Driver is a fucking nightmare to get working under XP. It has been done, and there is a patch out there that will do it. However, it's not an official patch, so Infogrames (they bought everything, including GT Games) won't give a toss if you fuck something up with it. They don't give a toss about the fact that so few people can still use Driver, either...

Probably won't make a smidgen of difference, but create a shortcut to the program executable, right click, properties, and you can access Compatibility layers without going through the wizard. Worth a shot.

I installed it a few months back (bought version, not warezed) and it didnt work under xp. I gave the disk to a friend because i wouldnt play it often even if it did work.
That was before sp1 for xp was released, so if you havent installed it yet it might be worth a try. |

Driver's excellent - but I've found it to be the most buggy waste of space, irrespective of the OS it's running on....

the graphics in driver are worse than the midtown madness ones - it's an earlier game. but yeah, for some proper getaway action, you need gta3. it's the shit.

Plenty, but none of them make the game work with XP. Take a look at ina-community.com (home of the official Driver forums) - very few people ever got it to work on XP.

As long as we are talking about driving games that don't work...
This has been bugging me for a while. Midtown Madness (version 1, not 2. I know Mr. Sphynx asked about the same problem, and got a solution, but obviously, the solution won't apply to me) won't work under WinXP. Textures won't display properly, leaving large flat swathes of color. Large triangles and rectangles spontaneously appear all over the display. Now, in researching this, I found out that this is a known issue in Midtown Madness 2 with nVidia and Intel 810 chipset graphics card. There's a fix for it. I haven't yet been able to find a fix for the same problem in Midtown Madness 1, other than to use the software renderer.
