I would search google since there must be a few sites out there with tutorials or experienced people's pages wiht their ringtones.

Software and cables? I remember my aunt's Dell had software on it to create ring tones which may be included with your nokia. I should think you just need a crade with your phone which you may already have. I think though that you can only add new ringtones if the phone is capable of interfacing with your computer.

shit. wrote huge long answer, then it got lost. ask more specifically, and i'll answer parts of it.

hardware is kinda model-specific, and the file formats from the software i've seen can be converted to keypresses to put into Composer, so you don't really need the linkup...

Motorola phones can be programmed for your own Ring Tones. Yet I suck at creating strings to make my phone play them.

You can get tones for msot Nokia phones already, so before trying to make one, do a search.

Not all phones (though mainly old ones now) can have their tones changed. Make sure you can do.

You don't necessarily need to download it via a data cable. Most Nokias can have new tones sent by SMS.

And if you get a data cable, make sure you get software that allows you to communicate between the PC and the phone.

it costs me $1.50 to get tones. and because American phone providers are so FUCKING RETARDED, i'm the only person in this whole city who knows what SMS is. we just plain dont have it. plus, the only ringtones are chick music. i mean, not a single fucking nirvana tone.

If your phone has infra-red and so does your PC/Laptop (laptops often do) you can do an ir linkup which your computer will recognize automatically. Then d/load the software from the nokia site and thats it.

I got a Nokia 3330 and I can create my own ring tones directly on my phone when I go to the "tones" menu I choose the "composer" and I can make up ring tones myself. (I converted a song I sang in a theater play into a ringtone nobody else has it) If your cellphone doesn't have that option, you gotta download ringtones, the best thing is to go to the web site of your provider first. If he doesn't offer ringtones I don'y know where else to look since I'm from Europe and over here there are a lot of sites with hundreds of ringtones, you can also create them online but there are just for cellphones with the provider from the specific European country
Good luck!
Mia
PS MTV Europe offers ringtones on their web site, maybe mtv in the us does it too, maybe check that out. (they got nirvana ring tones too, john m )

hope i could help you

Most ringtone sites are unfortunatly pay sites, but the one above is free.

You can also do well going onto Ebay.

You said it man! Especially that classical music through a shit monophonic speaker on older phones!

If I had a cell, default for me, since I hate those annoying and gay sounding ring tones.

I do not think it will be long before we see the standard being any file that you like as your ring tone, although that could be plainly even more annoying!

lol.

I have a Motorola Phone, I keep it on the Continental Ring Tone, or silent. No one calls me that often, or I just call them.

Sony phones let you record sounds to be used as ringtones (as well as error sounds, etc.). Donna's has a Mr Bungle clip as her ringtone and it sounds excellent.
