it wasn't the selection itself, it was the fact that they're all people who've been here *forever* (well, longer than me). i shall pick no more holes, however, this is neither the place nor time.

I still think Chev should of been SuperMod!! when he was around... he did a great job at it

Bilbo does do a great job but to be honest...when you New mod blood I'd advise you pick someone who can be trusted and has been here for a while...

I'd pick Griffinn and have Matt come back as Mod

but these are my view, take them as you will

First and last post on this subject, so here goes...

I see this "old skool" line repeated time and time again around these parts, and I must say it's an extremely blinkered view of what these forums are about, people really should get about more and mingle in the other areas of the community, these forums are bigger than one person, and will continue onwards and upwards no matter how many people you remove from the equation, but while we are on the subject, let's just re-cap on some of the other missing old skool members of the winamp forums, and what they brought to the community other than the ability to post threads about waffles, dinosaurs and endless simpsons quotes..

How about for starters, Duk, skin review member, did more for the database than can be expected, Cappy17, helped write the review guidelines on WA.com, Winsane, tech support extraordinaire, Gandalf, more of the same, RajI/O, skinner supreme, last seen in the WA3 forums some months ago, the list could go on and on, I could name you dozens of "old timers" from a couple of years back who for what ever reason or another have left the forums. You've probably never heard of some of the names, you won't have unless you get out of GD once in a while, but they are and were all key members of these forums that helped breath life into it.

To say that all the fun has gone because a few GD members have left, either of their own volition or otherwise is wrong, and it does a dis-service to the forums in general, remember, they are bigger than one person.

On another point, if the good old days are so great, you should all take a trip to the forum archives one day and have a read back on some of the threads from 2 and a bit years ago, there were more trolls on the boards back then than enuff, just recently I went back right to day one in the former skin love forums, some of the threads were appaling, all bile and vitriol from new members, the other forums were not much better, so the golden days are maybe not as golden as you may think.

Where do I stand on the whole RM situation?, I'm not entirely sure I have a point of view on it, I've kept my own council on his recent shenanigans, the only stand out point being I agreed he should have had his initial ban for posting the porn links all those months back, should have served his time and come back a better person for it, I can't say I was ever overly fond of him, after all, how many time would you open a thread only to find another simpsons quote at the end of it, there is only so many times you do that before you get bored and switch off. What I do believe was he was just another facet of these forums, be that a good one or a bad one, you can make your own mind up. Sadly he pushed the envelope to far and this is a result of it, thing to remember here is for ever action you take, there is an equal reaction, and the eventual reaction in this case was his removal.

So to sum up...

Look outside GD, there is more to forums.winamp.com than this one place, other areas live and breath by their members and add greatly to the whole WA.com ethos.

Stop looking behind you, the good old days were not that great, stop focusing on what was, and focus on what could be. You guys and gals in here have the ability to make this place what you want it to be.

Rm is gone, that's a fact, that may change one day in the future, maybe I don't know, RM would have to kiss some major ass to get back now, and I don't think he as a person is likely to.

Ok, think I've waffled enuff now , yes?

how are we to really know, its like saying i could walk up to a black guy in the street and call him a n----, then say, "dont worry, i only said it to make a point", then expect that guy to adhere and happily agree, if he was truly making a point, he wouldnt have singled out users names in his fuss, to me it was more a "if im banned, i'll go out with a bang and get everything off my chest"

grand gesture against the system?, my arse, he meerly said it was afterwards to avoid his new nick banning.

making a point is one thing, singling out users for racial comments is another.

i'm for one glad the f...ers gone.

I have to quote you on this Mr.jones. I did and I asked a completly civil question ib another forum. Some helped yes but One of the so called 'Older Skool' did nothing but diss what was aperfectly reasonable question. result ? Rather not go down there but have to as I need to learn that stuff. I won' be posting there though and will ensure I'm in invisable mode, so I can just get as much as I need to do what I need to do.
Apart from that I can't say as I just get the downloads generally and try working the rest out for myself.
But if all a bod is gonna get is a dissing, just for asking then what to do?
and apart from that Well Said !!

did you look at the post? it was titled "ban me" (or something similar, or in a thread with that title, or something), and basically the post systematically broke every rule in the forum regulations (the only one he missed out was crossposting). i'm not saying he was right to do it, but you are wrong if you think that he said it with malice. note that he took several examples (3 or 4 different people of different nationalities i believe), in order that he was not singling out one person.

remember when i was trying to calm you two down before you both got banned before? he sent me a copy of the post (which i will not link to, or send to anyone, so don't ask), so i do know what it contained now. i can see why you would be upset, but i don't think you should take such deep offence at something so obviously meant to break a rule rather than be taken seriously.

on the other hand, he did break all the rules, and was banned for it. again, i'm not saying he was right, i'm just trying to clarify this a bit.

I see no need for this discussion. RM is gone, decision is made. Who wants this closed?

right, gonna break the questionable post down:
LOTS of complaints about being banned without being notified. then a little harping on about nt being told why he was originally banned (which was for posting a list of pornographic sites as a joke - i don't think he was told his ban was temporary) etc., a few other similar things like that.

then he says:
Quote:
But you want a real reason to ban me? Not this pansy-shit. "Oh God no, he posted links to a picture of nipples! My virgin eyes! Good lord, no, in those 15 whole minutes that the links were up, God knows how many wanton acts of carnality went on!" Fucking wankers, I'll give you a real reason to ban me.
from here on comes the controversy...
he (in this order) denounces winamp, posts some pornography, posts a paragraph denouncing the mods (against a rule, i believe), a paragraph disclosing personal information about a member without their permission (a mod no less), he posts the controversial racist paragraph (which mentions 4 people, incidentally), puts a link to a warez site, and a link to streamripper's development page, some more pornography (linked to more mod insulting), then says:
Quote:
fuggin' hell... I wouldn't have been this pissed if you weren't so fucking two-faced. Christ... if you want to be me according to the rules, I'll gladly accept. Rule #1 of Civil Disobedience: Do not resist arrest.

But if you are going to fucking ban me by the fucking rules, ban me by the fucking rules. Follow protocol, and give me a notification email.

the racist comments, i have to say, did not seem to be anything other than an exercise in breaking the rules.

I agree as well. Let the issue close silently and let us get back to normal life.

I totally do think this should be locked...

I did not read the whole thread, I hate this stuff so much, because I know that if the people don't change, this world will stay the same. If I know the people on this forum, I know which ones will just stay pointless, and which ones will try to win! We cannot go on like this forever!

I am tired of the old bullshit, like when I post a thread asking for help, there are hardly any answers, and then it runs away into some other discussion. Is it so n00b-like to ask questions? There are not dumb questions either, most of the time, sensible questions, not like the classic "how do I convert wav to mp3 or mp3 to wav" or whatever the hell you think is stupid.

I don't think I should stay in these forums anymore, unless some miracle change can happen. And it sucks. Too many people are just going on about "jack got laid" and "fight the fucking power!"

I want to see change, and I know that many of you do too. Unlike the real world, these changes can be made by FOLLOWING the power, not fighting it. Nullsoft is good. They are a clean company, although they are owned by the biggest corporate monsters in the world, Nullsoft knows what the people want, and when I see the day tht they don't care anymore, I will run away and none of you will ever see me again. And that will not happen.

I will wait. Someone click on the banner in my sig, I believe that something good is happening there, and if so many of you want something different, like the classical Winamp Forums, maybe you should head over there. But I want to be able to have the "classical Winamp forums" here, at Winamp.

So get with it people, and I know some of you want to act like idiots and talk about changing our world by fighting the power, but that is not what we should do. We need to change our world by making it the way it used to be. If you think the strictness and stuff is because of the company and mods being mean, it is sure as hell not.

They are stricter because we all (yes, me too) have fucked this place up, and once we unfuck it, I think the admin and mods will loosen up, and you can have what you want. There is a way that will not involve you getting in trouble.

So please, Bilbo lock this fucking thread, and don't look back.
