A truly important question for our times: Can a Giant Lava Lamp save the Town?
http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=stor...nm/lavalamp_dc The sad thing is, you all would probably think at first this is some wacky onion headline, but no. It is in fact a real headline and there is a real dying town that is proposing to create the worlds biggest lava lamp to generate a semblence of commerce. So, I ask all of you: Can a Giant Lava Lamp save the Town? And if so, what combination of liquid, lava, and case color should they get? Check out the permutations on - what else? giantlavalamp.com !

Who cares if it works or not? Even if it's a total failure it would still be cool.
And the lava should be a nice greenish-blue, so that it won't look too grating in daylight, and so it will be totally psychadelic at night, with a black case color (or maybe a metallic brass color so that the observation deck doesn't get too hot in the middle of the day). This one comes reasonably close: ![]() EDIT: And why are the putting the thing in the middle of a fucking road? That's just stupid..."Ooh look, the swirlyness..." *CRASH*. I just heard about that story last night on CBC! I don't think the town of soap lake is going to create a roundabout on main street with it however, lol. Anyway, they are still doing feasibility studies.

Yes, Feasibility studies. For starters,
Are they prepared to cope with the huge crowd of Marijuanna activists, wannabe hippies and 60's burnouts that will flock to the town ,and then can they endure the grungy folk festivals that sell handmade pan-flutes, ceramic marijuanna paraphanalia, and ugly paintings? What will they do in a couple years inevitibily the lava loses coherency and it turns into little beads that do anything except fload at the top and bottom of the canister? If terrorists decided to crash a helicopter in it, are the local business residents capable of producing shielding that will protect them from the boiling liquid and "lava flow"?

one of my lava lamps has clear water and this blue reflective wax in it - the light from the bulb creates a really cool mercury-esque effect. that would be my choice of colours.

I don't know if anyone has thought about actually making the thing work - simple fluid mechanics suggests that you can't just make a bigger lava lamp and pour the same stuff in it that you use in a regular lava lamp - you would get lava bubbles the same size as in a desktop lava lamp. This calls for a trained lava lamp scientist.
But, if the lava scalability problem is solved, who wants to go in on a 7-11 franchise? |

They're not poor yet...they're building the lava lamp to try to avoid becoming poor...kind of like running at a pack of zombies armed only with a spork when you're cornered as a last ditch effort to save your ass...

This is cool. I love lava lamps. But what does this have to do with Nullsoft? Oh well. What the heck! It's still cool!

The lamp would be very clean, convenient way to dispose of the homeless... just unscrew it and drop them in, until their matter becomes one with the undulating globules of chemicals.
