What is troj_711sr-1?

i borrowed disk from a mate the other day, and as usual, i scanned before using it, and apparently its now in the system restore folder of winME but has spread nowhere through my system (it has stayed trapped in a .cpy file) but my virus encyclopedia knows nothing about the virus..., does any one here no what it is and does?

it cant beacuse its trapped inside a .cpy file which used for system restore. Windows me counts these as "system files" which cannot be modified or deleted, or quarentined etc...

Norton Anti-Virus 2003 w/latest updates knows nothing about it (at least it's not listed in the Virus List under 'T')

It seems to have disappeared when i defragmented. until then it seems to modify system files as dr.watson says a module in it has altered system files.

Seems like it's been renamed to bkdr_711.svr

http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/viru...e=BKDR_711.SVR

If its still present in one or more of the restore files, just delete them using the disk cleanup utility.

One small prob, windows millenium does not allow cleaning of system restore files, and you try to delete them it screws up the system

Infection in \Restore folder (Windows ME).

You can not remove infected files in \Restore folder. Follow these instructions to create
a workaround (no data will be lost):

Close all open programs. Then, right-click My Computer on the Windows desktop

Click Properties.

Click the Performance tab.

Click File System.

Click the Troubleshooting tab.

Check Disable System Restore.

Ok your way out.

Click Yes to restart. This disables the System Restore feature and will purge the contents
of the _RESTORE folder when the system is restarted.

After finishing the removal instructions, repeat steps 1 through 9, except in step 6,
choose: uncheck Disable System Restore.
