dsp stacker problems / need info
hello shoutast gods:
i am a nubie in serious need of your wisdom / searched the stickys & other posts but no luck / i’ll try to be brief / here is my present situation: running winamp 2.81 & shoutcast on 1.2 gig pentium with xp / 512 meg ram / cable through linksys router; installed shoutcast 1.8.2 DSP and DNAS / configured all OK / life is good; my mp3 collection varies in volume so i needed to install a limiter – compressor to process & balance the sound / after many hours of listening i settled on 2 which i feel are the best plug ins: (1) tomass limiter v1 / component id # 95214 (2) sound solutions / component id # 120741 they are both multi band limiters written by Alessandro Tomassini and i want choose one or the other depending upon which program i want to stream i installed the “much fx2” dsp stacker (component id # 775) which allowed me to select the compressor of my choice & stack with the shoutcast DSP but found (as i saw discussed in another post) the song titles and yp data would not update; plan B: uninstalled “much fx2” / installed “multiple dsp stacker” (component id # 128742) / but now winamp crashes when i try to stack either compressor with the shoutcast DSP; could someone please give me some ideas on how to proceed? i am a nubie but a quick learn / thanks in advance / all your forums have been of tremendous help so far! gulo gulo |

Instead of trying to fix the problem on the fly, fix it at the root source.
Use MP3Gain to adjust mp3 files so they have the same volume. I used to use a DSP stacking solution which included TomSteady. The results were acceptable, but not 100% accurate. Once I tossed it and ran MP3Gain on my collection (took about a day of mostly unattended crunching), I am very much pleased. FYI: I use the default 89dB setting. Some folks go up to 92dB. |

hey festerhead / thanks for your great right on advice / i downloaded mp3gain and normalized my files / took 10 hours but the result was worth it / just what you said / i have 2 other questions / (1) for now i am running a simple winamp playlist with squaresoft crossfader but when i listen to my stream back the crossfading seems messed up / somtimes there is a long pause and sometimes there is skipping just after the song begins / this does not happen when i listen locally but only when listening to the stream coming back / wonder if you have any ideas on this (2) i would like to be able to publisize my stream address which is presently http://24.61.93.196:8000/listen.pls
i would like to simplify this and not publish my ip / i have seen other broadcasters with addresses like (for exampele) http://wolverinedigital.org:8000 / i have signed up at no-ip and originally thought the free ip hosting might be what i need but am unsure how to proceed / do i need to register wolverinedigital as a domain name? / sorry for the long post & thanks in advance for your help gulo |

1. You're welcome
![]() 2. The 2 best options for crossfading, IMHO, are to use the Nullsoft Crossfade Plug-in and put your Winamp/DSp combo in advanced/soundcard mode, OR use SAM2. Note: I use SAM2 3. To use a domain name, it needs to be resolved to the DNAS ip. This is either done by you (if you run your own DNS server), your domain registrar, or your ISP by setting the DNS A records for your domain to your DNAS ip. 4. I've never setup a no-ip client nor do I know how to configure one. |

hello again mr festerhead sir / will download the nullsoft crossfader tonite & try it out / i can not be certain if my crossfading is in fact messed up to other listeners or if it is just how it sounds when i listen to my self coming back / listening to the crossfades via local audio direct from winamp everything is seamless & fine....
i downloaded sam2 last week and tried it out / it seems very beta but has great potential especially the playlist track weighting, the voiceover controls & the sound fx insertion / no dsp plug ins yet though? / i was going to go with it except the song tags were not geting to the yp / i think it is because i was usung the sound card input on the winamp dsp? / is there another way to configure it directly to the dnas which will enable the song tag transfer to the yps? / your “festerhead radio” link is just great / exactly what i want to set up / so the first thing i must do is to register (buy) wolverinedigital? / then i must tell the registrar my present ip and he will enable forwarding to my server? / what and who is audiorealm and should i care or register? / what role does the “8000” play and would my station address then simply be http://wolverinedigital.org:8000 ? / then at some point in the future i could add a web site like yours to provide info about my studio & station to my listeners? / way cool! thanks again for sharing your knowledge gulo |

The DSP encoders come bundled with SAM2. I am currently streaming to Live365, 2 private SHOUTcasts, and 1 subscription wma. Check out Help -> SAM Encoders Plugin module.
Note: For better SAM2 support, please join the AudioRealm mailing list. In addition to my help (albeit rather infrequent there), you'll get access to other folsk including the developers. Some will even remote connect to your machine to help you get setup. Note: My site is based off the default samweb that comes with SAM2. I've customized some pieces and integrated my phpBB login. As to your domain naming... Not all registrars handle your DNS needs. Don't tell them, ask them if they'll be your DNS. If they do, then yes, they'll need to add the DNS A record for your domain to point to your DNAS ip. If not, then you'll need to find another arrangement. Myself, I run my own DNS. The port number (8000) will be attached to the end of your url. You can use some trickery to open your stream without the port number, but that is beyond the scope of this reply. |

Don't write it off, please.....
Regarding Sound Solution plug - in written by Alessandro Tomassini
I'm interested in broadcast equippment and I have to say, that you just won't find any totally free on-air multiband processor which would work as accurate as Sound Solution works. Just look at its gated AGC, 5-band dynamic processor, clippers, stereo enhancing. You can find it all in real FM broadcast processors. It can sound almost professional if set up optimally (no question about it). There is just one big difference - the price. Unlike to Orban, Omnia or AEV (which cost a fortune) Sound Solution is free ! No doubt MP3Gain is good for maximization, but it's not an "on-air" (realtime) processor. It needs to be applied before broadcasting session. Unlike MP3Gain, setting up Alessandro's processor is much more complicated, but worth of 10 hours spent on it instead of applying the accurate signal level to every file - one by one... in my opinion it's pointless - what about CDs or line??? I admit - Sound Solution needs development... but please - don't write it off. Regards S³awek B. P.S. Check out Alessandro's site for new releases: http://www.zii.it/tms/ Alessandro needs help - please let me know if you know someone who'd like to collaborate with him freely. Thank you for reading this ! slawekb@poczta.fm |
