The Media Libary is very promising but it really needs some additional features (See Apple's iTunes for a very good idea of what I'm getting at):
1) Ability to delete media from the media library.
-- When content is deleted/moved from its original location,
it is not currently possible to remove the "empty" listing
in the editor without deleting the media library .xml file.
2) Winamp3 should run verification sweeps to make sure media still
exists if it is in the media library.
-- If media doesn't exist, there should be some options for the
user such as 'manual' (delete this entry, delete all entries,
ignore, ignore all, cancel)', 'automatic (same as above,
except user is not prompted for choice)'. This action must
take place as a background priority (unless explicity invoked
by the user) so it may not affect the speed/stability of
playback and loading the user interface.
3) Ability to predefine directories where winamp should be
monitoring for new media and update automatically w/o user
-- Should work the same way that KaZaA automatically
catalogs and shares new media upon download in its home
directory or any other predefined directory.
4) The Audio CD view should work identically the same way the
"Audio Files" view works.
-- CDs should be grouped and able to be sorted by artist, genre,
etc, just like MP3s are in the "Audio Files" view. A group
listing for Audio CDs (as it already is configured) can be
very cumbersome for users with large CD collections.
5) Media entries should have a small and identifiable icon next to
the listing indicating what kind of media it is.
-- When under the "All Media" view, it's impossible to tell
what's MP3, WAV, CD, AVI, etc at a glance. (It is possible to
right-click and go to View File Info, however that becomes
both tedious and downright boring.)
Just a few ideas I had --
