me = no cable tv or sattalite tv

Computers may be twice as fast as they were in 1973 but your average person is as drunk and stupid as ever. The only one who's changed is Dro! He's become bitter, and let's face it, crazy over the years. He'll sell our children's organs to zoos for meat. And he'll go into people's houses at night and wreck up the place! Muhuhahahaha!

Dune is a book by Frank Herbert, and is a very good work of science fiction. Dune II is the RTS that made Westwood Studios famous (and it is still a gem of a game).

Children of Dune is a spinoff of the original Dune.

The COMPLETE series by Him is:

Dune
Dune Messiah
Children of Dune
God Emperor of Dune
Heretics of Dune
Chapterhouse: Dune (not completely written by him)

and books not by Him:

Dune: House Corrino
Dune: House Harkonen
Dune: House Atreides

The first 6 are all pretty decent, but the other 3 aren't. There are points in the 3 'prequel' books that DIRECTLY conflict with things said in the other six.

And On that day, the Lords of the land said unto their Master Architect, "The temple you have made to the gods of Wasabi and Maki has brought us no great prosperity" and they sent out him into the lands.

As he traveled to a far off land, he found he wasn't traveling alone, but that he had gained companions, and when they found their new land, they started work on a new temple, one that would be OPEN to all who wanted to worship.

Ah I understand now. THank you for enlightening my seemingly ignorant self.

Sounds cool, I might check it out tonight.

that wasn't directed at you. I was pointing out that children of dune isn't actually a spin off of dune, but another part in the story.

I actually quite like the prequel books.... I mean, it's true that some things seem to contradict the proper stories, and that the writing style is different, but I still think they're a good read by themselves...

man.. the only Dune that I liked was the original movie. The latest miniseries that they put out last year sucked imo.

These made-for-TV movies are supposedly more true to the books, but I think you're right - the original film was far better...

you both say that because you haven't read the books. the 80's movie was crap, because it deviated so much from the real story. how would you like a superman movie where superman didn't wear the costume and didn't fly? that's the kind of difference we're looking at.

unfortunately i don't get sci-fi. i'll just wait for the dvd and buy it. i have THAT MUCH faith in this mini-series.

oh, and s0be, fourth prequel book, "butlerian jihad," is out on hardcover now. i read the first two prequels, and while they weren't anywhere as deep or meaningful to me as the originals, they were good and well written, and basically, it's another view into the universe of dune. and i can't argue with that.

You all must at least concede the modern mini-series version is better in one way - it's Sting-less.

yes. one more thing: the lack of david lynch means the plot is actually understandable.

No, I have read the books (I was talking earlier about the prequal stories...) I know the original film isn't true to them, but in my opinion the film itself is still a much better film than the made for TV series. Everything, from acting to special effects and sets makes the original film better....

But I'd rather read the books any day

I was led to believe that it was a Spinoff (mostly by the press here).

I haven't read the dune books yet. I may one day. So, the miniseries may have been more accurate, but... there is something about that original movie that totally rocked. It was surrealistic and had a kick ass soundtrack. I like the fact that some of the parts were a little "off" and didn't really fit. Of course, I personally like trippy movies. Imo, the original Dune would have been even better if it had half the dialogue. This would make it even that much more cryptic and strange.

i watched all 12 hours of dune and go done watching the last one of the three part miniserise tonight, i think they are good and i have read part of the first book, but did not have time to read the rest. but as far as the show goes, its really good but the only poblem i found with the children of dune was it seemed a little aniclmatic. It builds u up and then just kinda ends. I still think its good, but that is the only prolbem.
So all in all the first show "dune" is very good (the book of what i have read is good as well, and "children of dune" is good but not quite as good as the first.

Yes my spelling sucks, I know that and it can't be changed

I can't wait that long! Nah, I've already got the first one on DVD, and have already seen all the Children of Dune episodes.
